Thoughts on Alister/Alistair

Wondering what people think of Alister? Is it dated?

Also, how would you spell it?
Alister
Alistair

What do you think of these:
Alister David
Alister Jeffrey

Middle names are family names, DS1 has a family middle name too.

Thanks!

I've never seen it spelt Alister. That sounds likes completely different name. I would go for the traditional spelling

I much prefer Alistair, the other spelling always feels a bit off to me! Lovely name though

Ok I'm awkward - I'd spell it Alasdair or Alisdair! (Although out of the spellings you have given I prefer Alistair! Smile )

Alasdair is the spelling I have on my list, but that's because it's the traditional Scottish spelling and think it goes better with my DS1 Murray!

Of your spellings I'd go for Alistair :)

Alistair.

It's nice.

Thank you! I say Alistair and DH says Alister! So not a dated name then? There doesn't seem to be many about.

Nice name but never seen it spelt alister. I would pronounce that differently too. Is that made up?

I'd also go with Alasdair.

I know one Alister but other than him I've not seen it spelled like that before - obviously DH disagrees!

I love it, it was on our list but spelt Alasdair. Of your spelling's I'd go for Alastair as Alister just do sent look right to me as it looks like it should be pronounced A-list-er (as in celebrity a lister!).

MyBootsAreMuddy · 21/03/2016 09:01

Sorry that should say of your spellings I'd go for Alistair.

I would spell it

Alastair

I know an adult, a 12 year old and a 5 year old.

Not a dated name. A classic like Matthew or Thomas.

We have an Alistair who's 2. Never met another his age but very pleased with it - nice solid name and good nicknames (he gets Al and Ally).

Sophronia · 21/03/2016 10:17

I'd spell it Alastair. I like it.

I like it but please don't spell it with a d.

My BIL spells it Alister, we've used it as a middle name for one of ours but went with Alastair, so that would be my preferred spelling but they are all legitimate.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 21/03/2016 10:22

And from your options I like Alastair David the best.

I know an Alastair (named for the cricketer) and an Alistair. Like both spellings - not a name I hear very often.

And not forgetting Alasdhair.

Far too many ways to spell this name. Plus they're always a big smug I find.

I think Alistair and Alasdair look right. The rest of them need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Especially you Allysdair.

The d spellings just seem so wet. you need to spell it with a t :)
