Cannot decide between the following names, i have a mum and a mother in law who do not keep their opinions or suggestions quiet so i need to be firm in my own mind so arent swayed by one of them in my post birth hormonal vulnerable state

Clara ---love it but worries it will get mistaken for cara and also seems popular on here? dont want a faddy name
Megan - too boring? our son has welsh name would go nicely
Jenna - not sure i like Jen but could grow on me also would go with our sons name
Hannah - too boring? or classic?
Lydia - love Lyds as nn but is it too biblical?

Lydia is my favourite but what is yours?!

My Mil hates my dds name. It's none of her business or my dms business. Don't mention names before the birth and just present your chosen name when baby is born.

I love the name Megan, and Hannah is pretty too

They are all lovely names, my favourites are :

Clara - don't think it would be mistaken for Cara. Beautiful name
Hannah - classic but lovely
Lydia - I don't think Biblical when I hear it, I think Pride and Prejudice! Nice name

The other two are perfectly nice too.

I like Megan and Jenna

They are all lovely names. I don't think I've ever said that on a name thread before.
Remember that the grandparents have had their turn at picking baby names for their own children and should have no say in picking a name for yours.

Clara is really lovely, as is Lydia.
Jenna is a name I always think of as being typical 80s, you're probably too young to remember Priscilla Presley's character in Dallas, Jenna Wade.

They are all nice. Clara isn't faddy, IMO.

Don't even discuss it with your mum and mil. Your baby, your choice! Keep it to yourself until after she's born, announce it & then no one can grumble at you.

Clara is my favourite of all of those but they are all lovely.
Your mum and mil have no choice, this is your baby!

I like Lydia best I also think of P and P :)
Clara is nice too not faddy IMO.
But please don't let others pressurise you make sure you DP is on board and will nip any 'helpful suggestions' from mum and mil in the bud. My mil and dsis made it quite clear they didn't like my name choice for dd and I made it quite clear I could give a tiny rats ass :)

I love Clara too. Loads of Megans around. Hannah - bit boring. Jenna - bit naff. Not keen on Lydia.

But it's your choice! Nothing to do with MIL or DM.

I prefer Lydia :)

They are all nice names.

Just say to your Mum and MIL that you'll announce after the baby is born.

They have already had a turn at baby naming - this is for you and your DH to decide.

Lydia and Clara are lovely

I love Lydia, and Clara is also pretty. I have always found Megan a harsh sounding name, Hannah is okay but I don't love it.

Just don't say anything until the baby is born, present her with that name and then there really can be no arguments.

I really like Lydia and it doesn't sound biblical to me. Clara is lovely too.

I love Megan (and Meg) and also Hannah.

I like Lydia.

Clara is ok.

Jenna is awful to my ears.

I love Lydia and Clara from your list, but all are nice. I felt similarly to you when expecting DD, my DM and MIL are both very opinionated women and it drove them both mad that we wouldn't divulge any names that we were considering, I said no we can't decide every time anyone asked if we had any names yet and I told my cousin a name that had briefly been discussed when she asked as I knew it would get back to my mum and she would obsess about it - she did exactly as I thought she would and said something along the lines of 'well it's not a name that I would have chosen but it is growing on me' and that just confirmed in my mind that we were doing the right thing by keeping all names to ourselves until after the birth.

ooh tricky one, first time I've seen lots of names that I rather like altogether for a while :) (not that I've been on here for ages but...)

Lydia and Clara are particularly lovely.

Report
SanityClause · 10/03/2016 14:14

I like them all except Jenna.

What you need to do is agree with your DH that you will not discuss names with them, until the baby is born, and you introduce her to them.

If they are so rude as to comment negatively on the name, when introduced to a squishy new born (Shock) then channel your inner Paddington, and give them a Hard Stare, and do not discuss it with them, except to say, "that is her name".

I like both Clara and Lydia, both are lovely and classic (and I don't know any if you're worried about popularity). The latter always makes me think "she has eyes that men adored so and a torso even more so" Grin

It's non of your mil's business. She's got not one ounce of say in the matter.
Megan is the nicest name.

i just think if i show any ounce of not naming the baby immediately i will get bombarded with 'suggestions' i want to know in my own mind like even if i had narrowed it down to 2 then only have to chose between 2 when she is here!
i think? Clara is my favourite especially as i loved the Heidi books and tv show as a kid i think second place is Megan but i also really like the others!
Does Clara Megan go?
or Clara Lydia?
or Clara Jenna?
