What did you name your DC?

Very much light hearted of course.. No offence intended towards non lefties or their dc's names, I'm just

A) nosey
and
B) looking for inspiration for names that my (very lefty) dp might not veto.

Thanks and please don't flame me!

Not saying my DDs name.

But would suggest anything to do with red.
Ruby
Scarlett
Carmine

Or a surname of a lefty hero.

Prescott for a boy.

PalacePalacePalace Tue 08-Mar-16 23:28:50

What about
Keir
Clement
Billy (Bragg)
Definitely don't go for Ken or jeremy!

GiddyOnZackHunt Tue 08-Mar-16 23:28:53

Jenny after Jenny Lee, Nye Bevan's love.

That's not a name I used but it has solid lefty weight.

choccyp1g Tue 08-Mar-16 23:29:16

Kier
Aneurin

CommunistLegoBloc Tue 08-Mar-16 23:30:48

I wanted to call my dog Corbyn blush

gallicgirl Tue 08-Mar-16 23:30:50

I worked with an Ivan whose brother was named Leon.

Who are your DH's heros?

choccyp1g Tue 08-Mar-16 23:32:05

I think I misspelt Keir. I was trying so hard with Aneurin.
How about Bevan?

BestIsWest Tue 08-Mar-16 23:37:51

Aneurin, for a girl Aneira (first baby born under NHS)
Rosa
Jenny
Barbara
Eleanor

nancy75 Tue 08-Mar-16 23:39:49

runawaysimba Tue 08-Mar-16 23:42:45

We have Maggie, but we're not British smile

7to25 Tue 08-Mar-16 23:46:04

Mary for Mary Barbour

EllenTheEgret Wed 09-Mar-16 07:06:32

Thanks all!

I like:
Keir
Leon (after uber lefty Leon from Gogglebox wink)

Rosa
Jenny
Eleanor

Weirdly really like Maggie - I'm just about young enough to think Simpson not Thatcher grin

I was actually wondering what real lefties had called their children but this is good too smile

Leni for a girl. They just missed the n off.

Aneurin ( known as Nye) AND his surname was Bevan.

Sylvia (Pankhurst)

Once upon a time, Atticus was favoured by certainly the liberal if not the left leaning. Not certain of its status since 'Go call the Watchman' was published.

Thomas (Paine) Clare in the Community (R4) child was Thomas Paine Barker.

Malcolm (X)

AntiquityReRises Wed 09-Mar-16 08:31:41

As a big fat lefty sliding into socialist I gave my child names I love. One very unusual, one very common. Did I not get the big red book of names or something?!?

jimpam Wed 09-Mar-16 08:53:47

I liked alba for a girl & was due a few months before the independence referendum. Quite a few people told me they thought it was too political for a baby born in scotland at that time to be named abla hmm Baby turned out to be a boy though so avoided that one altogether.

tinymeteor Wed 09-Mar-16 09:35:50

I like Maggie of Winston for our dog but couldn't do it due to the political overtones...

Emmeline is a goodun.

SpecialStains Wed 09-Mar-16 10:26:43

Dh will love this thread. Malcolm has been mentioned several times, but sadly (and for absolutely no good reason) I don't like the name.

motherinferior Wed 09-Mar-16 10:29:27

I like Nye. And though I didn't call my girls Rosa I like that too.

OneMagnumisneverenough Wed 09-Mar-16 11:11:19

I'm a Scottish leftie so mine have a different spin.

I do sort of have a Keir though it has a Gaelic twist. The other has a Scottish name as well but no particular references to Politics smile
