I've loved Angus for a long time now but recently have seen Hamish floating around a lot and beginning to love it even more. (Middle name will be Benedict or William after our grandfathers). I was born in England but both my parents/rest of family are Scots, so there is a heritage link on my side.
Which do you prefer Angus or Hamish?

I like both but know an awful lot of children named Hamish, so I'll vote for Angus.

Angus. I'm not keen on Hamish, it sounds a bit harsh to my ears. Love Angus though.

Although don't call him Angus Benedict if your surname is Cook Wink

Both lovely Smile but Hamish wins for me. We thought about Hugh for a prospective DS but it really doesn't work with our surname!

100% Hamish

I like them both, Angus has the slight edge for me because I think Gus is a cute NN definitely not because it reminds me of the wee mouse in Cinderella.

I love both, if I have another DS his name will be Hamish. To the poster who knows 'a lot' of Hamish's, how many do you know and where do you live? I live in Glasgow and know one Hamish but am worried it's getting more popular!

Love hamish and Angus but hamish's nickname could be hambo and I adore that Smile

magpie we're in Tayside and I also know a couple of wee Hamishes in Edinburgh. It's a classic and seems to be having a moment.

OP do any other Scottish names appeal? How about; Logan, Struan, Lewis, Duncan, Douglas, Hector? I also love Alexander with Eck for a nickname.

I prefer Hamish, but Angus lends itself to the nn Gus, which is fabulous.

Thanks everyone, that was no help whatsoever!GrinGrin
Doodlejump I do love Magnus but we already have a DD with a very similar sounding name.
Doceo I like a lot of those names too, bit I have brothers Duncan and Alistair and a cousin Douglas, all in their 30s, so a number of those names are already taken. I just about prefer Angus and Hamish to the remaining names.

Thinking maybe I should stick to my long-term-love Angus. Hamish might be a hormonal flash in the pan...

Hampshire DH is like James - it's a classic.
I'd be torn too. I also love Douglas too.
Then there is Fergus.
I'm not being very helpful, sorry.
