I have a baby boy and older son, but it's my mum's middle name and wondered if it was usable for a future DD

I love it!

Sorry. I think it's a horrible name. However any name is usable unless it's something like Teresa Green or Hazel Nutt.

I like it and think it's due a comeback.

FoolsAndJesters Fri 26-Feb-16 19:58:32

I think it's lovely and due a comeback. I used to know a lovely Alison.

I wonder if ILiveInALighthouse knew a horrible Alison. wink

Vixxfacee Fri 26-Feb-16 19:59:07

Ha ha. Ive only known 2 Alisons. One was lovely, The other was very surley, and unapproachable

Jemimapuddleduk Fri 26-Feb-16 20:03:20

I really like it. Have only ever met lovely Alison's.

Loqo Fri 26-Feb-16 20:05:26

Alice is a lovely name but its sooooo so popular. Alison is a bit unusual and just as pretty.

goshhhhhh Fri 26-Feb-16 20:07:53

Prefer AAlison to Alice.

wonderpants Fri 26-Feb-16 20:14:28

I quite like Allyson, despite not unusually liking unusual spellings!
But Alison also nice!

I've heard of three baby Alisons in the past few months, so in our part of Ireland at least it's having a bit of a revival.

I love that it's such an old name, it's in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales but with a slightly different spelling.

Sophronia Fri 26-Feb-16 22:20:50

I like it and agree it should make a comeback

ScarletForYa Fri 26-Feb-16 22:24:52

Alice is much better.

Finallyonboard Fri 26-Feb-16 22:26:28

What about Alice?

Mclaren37 Fri 26-Feb-16 22:31:03

Dislike it sorry. Very dated. Alice is still a nice tribute?

Xmasbaby11 Fri 26-Feb-16 22:35:10

It's quite dated to me. I prefer

Alice
Alicia

I wanted Alicia for dd but Dh vetoed!

Meeep Fri 26-Feb-16 22:35:46

I like it!

JudgeJudySheindlin Fri 26-Feb-16 22:36:04

Alison was an extremely popular name when I was growing up. Never liked it, but now I think it's really pretty. It is certainly not like some of the other names from the 60s & 70s I would hate to see return.shock

DancingDinosaur Fri 26-Feb-16 22:37:35

I like it. I didn't when I was growing up as it was quite a common name. But I've met some really nice Alisons recently and its drawn me to the name.

Swollenankles83 Fri 26-Feb-16 23:02:12

I find it a bit frumpy - sorry OP

JadziaSnax Fri 26-Feb-16 23:14:09

I'm biased - it's my name. The name has dated a bit and has a bit of a 70s / 80s feel about it.

I'd be delighted to meet a baby Alison though smile

ILoveACornishPasty Fri 26-Feb-16 23:32:53

My mum is Alison but everyone calls her Ali anyway. I like it X

TrappedInAWitchesCurse Fri 26-Feb-16 23:34:49

I agree it's dated. Would use as a middle name if after a family member but not as a first name.
