Sibling for Vivienne Rose

AngharadTheSplendid · 03/02/2016 02:27

DD is Vivienne Rose and just found out we are expecting DC2! It's early days but it took me more than nine months to settle on a name last time so would like to get a head start! I like quite unusual names for girls, but really classic names for boys. I also like a sweet Nn for use when they are little (we call DD Vivi).

Here's my (long) short list:

Vivienne and...

Xanthe (My no.1 favourite name but I worry about spelling/pron. Our surname is French and has to be spelt out already, so spelling both could be really annoying. Also in RL I've mentioned this name and had people go 'eh? Huh? What!?')
Adrianna (But can't think of a good nn, don't like Adie or Adri)
Persephone (Posy)
Claudia (Coco?? Might be pushing it!)
Roxana (Roxy)
Indiana or Indigo (Indi)
Astrid (Trixie?)
Seraphina (Fifi?)
Angelica (but don't like Angie)
Evangeline (but too many Evie's around)

Edward (Teddy)
Alexander (Xandy)
William (Will)

Any other suggestions very welcome,
Thank you.

I like most of your girl's names, but not the nicknames. They are not as nice as the names themselves e.g Claudia, Astrid, Seraphina. Don't think Indigo/Indiana really go with Vivienne. Don't really like Roxana (is that a real name?). I like all the boys names.

Other suggestions
Genevieve
Josephine
Madeleine
Arianna/Arianne/Ariadne
Sera/Sara
Elisabeth
Alexandria
Amelie
Andrea

Thanks Serenity, love love love Ariadne. So beautiful. Trying to think of a nn that doesn't sound like Harry without the h...

Roxana is legit, she was Alexander the Great's wife.

Just wanted to say I have a Vivi too (currently morphing into Viv as she has got older which I disliked but has now grown on me!)
Isabelle (Izzy, Belle)
Madeline (various spellings and Maddy as a nn)
Georgia
Nina (maybe a nn for a longer name?)
Natalia
Gabriella (Gaby)
Ariadne (nn Aria?)
Rosanna
Manouella

We also have a Luke (French last name but we picked the English spelling) but you can look at variants Luc, Luca, Lucas
What about Rafe, Xavier, Leon or Leo - no nn's but all classic and short? And go well with French surnames as well as pronouncing in both languages.

You have great taste Yakari!! It seems to be getting more popular, I was v surprised to find there was another Vivi in our baby yoga class recently.

Love Luca and Leon for a boy. I think one of Angelina Jolie's boys has Leon as a middle name though... Might I seem like a stalker?! Grin

Ariadne Nn Aria is gorgeous. Think it might be my fav.

Vivienne had been 'my' name for years, I was very stroppy when Angelina and Brad 'stole' it Smile

Love Ariadne nn Aria.
I'm not mad on Persephone but think it gets shortened to Perse (Percy) which would make me avoid it.

I like Claudia with Vivienne. Ariadne is lovely too.

How about...

Philippa (Pippa)
Aurelia (Aura)
Adelaide (Ada)
Beatrice (Bea)
Cordelia (Cora/Cordy)
Carlotta (Lotta/Lottie)
Emmeline (Emme)
Felicity (Fliss)
Genevieve (Genny/Evie)
Josephine (Josie/Posy)
Penelope (Penny/Nelle/Nella)
Rosalie (Rosa/Rosi)
Susannah (Susie/Sunny/Annie)

I like the nn Seffy for Persephone

Sophronia I also do think Vivienne and Claudia sound lovely together. I think they 'match' nicely by both being quite grown up/elegant, but also aren't TOO similar. There also wouldn't be any teasing/pron/spelling issues with Claudia. Quite like Claudette too actually.

Also love Emmeline (great patronage) and Susannah Nn Suki.

Much as I love Persephone/Posy/Percy (not so keen on Seffy), I do worry about 'Percy Phone' teasing...

Any Persephones or Xanthes out there who can reassure me?!

Dd has a xanthe in her class. I think you would check the spelling anyway. One you know it, it is an easy one to remember.
I love it too.

Constantina - Connie
Cecelia - cece
Penelope - Nellie
Leonora - Nora

Middle names something short like Pearl, Quinn, Ivy, Ann,

Leonora Quinn is my vote.

Boys names I love Alexander, but also suggest

Leonard (Lenny)
Edmund (Eddie)
Timothy (Timon or Timmy)

Timothy Leon works well

I know a Claudine which is very pretty too

I have a Xanthe. I have to repeat her name at least 3 times and it is usually mistaken for Nancy when spoken and Zante when read. It is becoming a little tiresome tbh. I don't regret it as it's beautiful, I just get annoyed that people can't grasp a two syllable name(!)

Your girls name list is very similar to mine when naming Xanthe. Claudia is my favourite out of your list.

Others on my list were:-

Francesca (prefer Cesca/Chessie nn to Fran)
Antonia (like Nia as nn but hate Toni)
Saskia (probably wouldn't intentionally shorten)
Fleur (but may be too much with a French surname)
Araminta (I desperately wanted this as a md for Xanthe but DP vetoed it Sad)
Jemima (again wouldn't intend to shorten)

Im not mad on your boys names. Given your taste in girls name they are a bit dull (sorry). How about Caspar, Dominic or Augustus (Gus)

Wow some fab suggestions here!

PanMama thank you Smile

Artandco adore Quinn and Pearl. Both were on my list for DD1, but DH thought Quinn might get 'quim' teasing Hmm and a family member just had a Pearl. Booo.

Improbable YES to Antigone. Ran it past DH but sadly he thinks it's too much and she would get Anti-gone. I love the Nn Tiggy so much I'm now wondering what other names I could use with that Nn... All I can think of is Teagan which I dont like.

Goldplated I am green with envy that you have a Xanthe! DD1 was actually Xanthe Rose for the first day of her life but we live in the states at the moment and every nurse was absolutely baffled when I pronounced it, so I lost my nerve. Sometimes I regret changing my mind a little bit as she has white blonde hair (despite me and DH being brunettes) so it's almost like she was born to be a Xanthe! Guaranteed I'll never have another blonde girl again now. Also love Jemima (Mimi?) and Saskia (Kiki?) from your list.

Maybe Xanthe as a middle name... Leaning towards Claudia Xanthe (as Ariadne Xanthe is too rhyming I think).

Thanks so much everyone.

Tiggy is indeed an excellent name.

Bloody dp's.... My dp thought anti-gone too! (Plus as an aside when you look into the history of it in mythology she ended up shagging her brother and murdering her mother, so not an entirely plausible reference...)

I loved Matilda, nn Tilly, Delilah nn Lilah, Pandora nn Pandy, or something like Lucille, or Arianna etc

Well... When you put it like that Improbable! Grin. I love Pandora too but DH's response was simply 'box.' Hehe.

Tiggy D are you an actual Antigone? If not how did you get your fabulous name!
