Remy - for a girl?

So my husband keeps coming back to Remy but for a girl.

I'm not convinced - I worry it's a bit chavvy and also using a boy's name for a girl.

Unusual and pretty or weird and silly?

There's a pretty good female character called remy in the tv series house. I like it. Simple and androgynous but not common.

Pretty. I wanted it for dd but dp wasn't a fan. It's the name of Olivia Wild's character in House I think.

X post!

If he wants to name his DD a French boys' name, who is anyone to say no? grin

Honoria Sat 16-Jan-16 19:27:02

It's a boys name to me. How about Romy instead?

cornwallsharon Sat 16-Jan-16 19:29:10

Ah yes, we were both big House MD fans so he keeps bringing her up! grin

Sorry but sounds like an indigestion tablet to me.

Doesn't Ratatouille mean it's a reasonably well-known male name? I wouldn't.

Remy Martin is what I think of, ok but I love my brandy.

neolara Sat 16-Jan-16 21:18:12

I know a girl Remy. I rather like it.

My friend has a 5 month old baby girl called Remy. I think they would have used it for a boy too.

Doje Sat 16-Jan-16 21:20:03

Like it. smile

I don't like it, but that's purely because when I was at school it was an insult, short for remedial. people used to tell each other that they should be 'in the remmy form' if they did or said something stupid. I know the pronunciation is slightly different but still...

It also puts me in mind of the stereotypical french chefs.

Jesabel Sat 16-Jan-16 21:25:13

I've met two little girls called Remy recently, I wondered if it came from TV.

squoosh Sat 16-Jan-16 21:27:00

I like it.

TrinityForce Sat 16-Jan-16 21:27:11

How do you pronounce it? Ree-my? Remmy?

squoosh Sat 16-Jan-16 21:27:18

And I prefer it to MN fave Romy.

iciclewinter Sat 16-Jan-16 21:29:31

Like Honoria I was also going to suggest Romy.

janethegirl2 Sat 16-Jan-16 21:32:16

Don't like Remy or Romy at all!

ThatsHowYouGetAnts Sat 16-Jan-16 21:37:17

I like it but think of it as a boys' name (was a teenage comic book enthusiast and there is a character in the X-Men called Remy).

lilone1234 Sat 16-Jan-16 21:41:20

It wouldn't be my choice personally, but I've known girls with the name so its a girls name to me and not chavvy. Think it's nicer spelt Remi or Remmy (if that's how you're saying it) though.

ThursdayLastWeek Sat 16-Jan-16 21:45:56

I think boys name too.

CormoranStrike Sat 16-Jan-16 21:50:51

Romilly?
