I wanted something unusual, but still 'normal' - so I had decided on Gideon, but now I'm not so sure... Depending on the feedback, it will be the middle name! I would still like it as the first name though... Thank you smile

Gideon's a cunt
Gideon osbourne
Sorry

Not my cup of tea, sorry.

It was George Osborne's real name but he hated it so much, and was so worried it would affect his career, that he changed it. Now it's a name used to tease him. I just think of him wen I hear it. A big no from me.

JAZA Sun 10-Jan-16 08:18:19

If not, he'll be Noah Gideon smile

SummerMonths Sun 10-Jan-16 08:19:19

Noah is lovely

Rivercam Sun 10-Jan-16 08:19:29

great choice of nam. As you say, unusual but not weird.

Obsidian - bit harsh comment.

ifigoup Sun 10-Jan-16 08:20:37

I like Gideon! George Osborne doesn't get to ruin a perfectly nice and solid name!

Noah Gideon works too, but obviously Noah is a lot more prevalent.

StitchesInTime Sun 10-Jan-16 08:20:42

I like it

I don't think the George Osborne thing is a reason to avoid Gideon. It's not like he kept Gideon as his first name.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight Sun 10-Jan-16 08:21:16

Harsh? It's what it makes me think of. George Osborne who is a cunt. There is a mner with it as her username.

SummerMonths Sun 10-Jan-16 08:24:24

OK, let's leave aside the massive George Osborbe teasing issue.

I don't think it's a nice sounding name. It's only shortening is Gid which sounds like Git.

JAZA Sun 10-Jan-16 08:26:01

It makes me think of Criminal Minds, aha... Not George Osborne! It's so hard to decide sad I do like Noah Gideon - both Old Testament names smile

tilder Sun 10-Jan-16 08:26:35

Gideon = osborne
I reserve the c word for hunt but would agree that for me Gideon conjures up unpleasant thoughts.
sorry

Veterinari Sun 10-Jan-16 08:26:39

Gideon just sounds very old fashioned to me. No nice shortenings and it's a bit of a mouthful.

Are you religious OP? Noah Gideon are two very strong Old Testament names, though Noah is very trendy now.

LadyWithLapdog Sun 10-Jan-16 08:27:29

Big NO for the Osborne connection. Same reason I'd never use Margaret. Forever tainted for me. I'll admit it's s bit absurd but there you go.

guiltynetter Sun 10-Jan-16 08:28:07

Gideon is awful. sorry.

JAZA Sun 10-Jan-16 08:28:13

I'm actually not religious, but I do love biblical names smile

NellysKnickers Sun 10-Jan-16 08:29:53

Used to know a Gideon, he was NOT a nice person. Shame as it's an ok name, just ruined for me.

SummerMonths Sun 10-Jan-16 08:31:14

There are other, much nicer, unusual Old Testament names that go with Noah:
Noah Saul
Noah Elias
Noah Seth
Noah Elijah

Salene Sun 10-Jan-16 08:31:14

Oh gosh it's a terrible name

Sorry

ThroughThickAndThin01 Sun 10-Jan-16 08:31:58

Not keen on Gideon, (although much prefer it to George, no idea why he changed it)

Noah is nice.

Veterinari Sun 10-Jan-16 08:32:35

I know that times change but I went to school with a boy who's middle name was Isaiah - despite being popular he was always teased for his 'weird' religious name (he had a common first name of biblical origin). I know that there is much greater variety of names now and many Old Testament names are trendy but a names like Gideon isn't one of them and doesn't offer much flexibility

rainbowstardrops Sun 10-Jan-16 08:32:36

Wasn't Gideon a tv duck yonks ago?
<goes off to Google it>

ThroughThickAndThin01 Sun 10-Jan-16 08:32:49

Gabriel?

JAZA Sun 10-Jan-16 08:33:34

I actually prefer Gideon to all of those! I don't know... Gideon just has a 'cool' feel, IMO - the thing is, I will be using it, it was just a question between 1st or 2nd name!
