I love Tess and Rufus

Think we have quite similar taste OP - I like lots of your choices!

Girls:
Love: Greta, Rowan, Helena (all beautiful and feature on my own list)

Like: Verity, Anna, Etta, Robin, Tess, Juliet

Not a fan of:
Indigo - used to like this, but now it feels a bit overly hippyish. Maybe OK for a MN though?
Darwin - great for a boy, not convinced it works for a girl
Jude - again, a bit boyish
Cora - just reminds me of Downton Abbey

Boys:

Love: Rufus, Robin (though I do worry that the latter would be seen as a bit wet)

Like: Jude, Elliot, Evan, Ewan, Alex (but would go with Alexander as full name), Luke (surprisingly underused now)

Not a fan of:
Rex - feels a bit 'celeb trendy' to me
Max - a tad dull
Luca - bit of a 'flash in the pan' name I think - already sounds a bit dated
Lucas - don't like the way it sounds

Girls-
Verity - pretty, but a bit fussy
Anna - classic, but not v exciting
Indigo - cool, IF you can pull it off. Too similar to Inigo (which is make to me)?
Etta - like as a nn (e.g. Henrietta to Etta), not sure on its own
Greta - a bit harsh
Rowan - don;t like, male to me (not keen on unisex names)
Robin - no, unisex again
Tess - like this! Classic and strong
Darwin - not keen on surname names, and this is male to me
Cora - pretty, a bit too Downton?
Jude - no, male, unless nn for Judith?
Helena - pretty
Juliet - lovely

Boys
Jude - no, too 'cool', Hey Jude etc (more likely than the Hardy ref I can see running through, Tess & Jude??)
Elliot - no, unisex name again, not for me
Evan - no, too surnamey
Ewan - no, too 'ewwwww' sounding
Rufus - love it!
Alex - Love as a nn for Alexander, not keen on its own
Rex - too try hard, also a dog's name
Max - like this, v popular at the mo though
Robin - unisex, no
Luke - drippy
Luca - prefer spelt as Lukah
Lucas - awful

Cora and evan

Report
jemimastar · 08/01/2016 14:24

My favourites:
Etta
Greta
Tess
Cora*love
Helena *love this, so graceful, beautiful

Boys
Jude *love
Evan

Rex * LOVE Rex, strong, classic but still has an edge, completely underused. Met the cutest little Rex the other day, completely handsome, energetic, smiley toddler, totally suited his name. Ignore tedious “dogs name” comments, what does that even mean anymore? Have you EVER met a dog in real life called Rex? Bet not. Would be my DS name.

Lucas

Thanks for the replies. There seems to be a lot of live for Helena which I'm surprised at. Is it popular these days (I don't really want to go for a popular name)?

Verity - an irrational hatred of mine. Prissy and prim to my ears
Anna - love it!
Indigo - OK. prefer India tbh.
Etta - lovely, although maybe a bit too nicknamey for me?
Greta - nice
Rowan - love this although prefer for a boy
Robin - meh
Tess - meh
Darwin - this is a boys name IMO
Cora - gorgeous
Jude - I like it but again too nicknamey for me
Helena - nice. Prefer Elena. Pronunciation issues? Hel-AY-na or HEL-en-a?
Juliet - gorgeous!

Boys
Jude - love it
Elliot - love it
Evan - meh
Ewan - meh
Rufus - nice
Alex - I like it but prefer Alexander with nn Alex.
Rex - a dogs name
Max - I like it
Robin - nice
Luke/Luca/Lucas - I like all 3, I think my favourite is Lucas with nn Luke

My stand out favourites are Anna, Cora and Juliet for girls and Jude & Elliot for boys.

Etta and Luca. Have you considered Rita? Similar to some of your names and lovely I think

Report
zippyswife · 08/01/2016 19:41

Yes Rita was always a forerunner when I was pg with previously. I didn't list it this time as I didn't want it to be linked with Rita ora? Or am I overthinking?

I don't think it necessarily would be. I don't think she's popular enough amongst everyone for people to automatically think of that. I know a baby Rita and it never made me think of Ora, it's a perfect name for that little one

We have the same girls list :-) minus Indigo, Robin and Jude but who knows you might sway me.
I love Cora, Greta, Rita and Tess (although I prefer Tessa nn Tess)
Maybe you could do Juliet, Greta nn Etty/Etta?

I like the idea of Juliet with a nn etta/greta. I'd manage to get 2ngor the price of 1 with that!!

Thanks for suggestions.

Cora or Rex are my favourites. Jude is a boy's name in my mind, Robin's nice for either but I'd spell it with a 'y' if for a girl. Darwin is a bit odd.

How about Vita?

Report
zippyswife · 09/01/2016 15:51

Vita is nice. Hadn't really thought of it. Where's it from? Baby will be English with Irish heritage (and maybe the red hair to match). So name can't be too exotic!

FWIW I actually think it'll be a boy which is much harder as there are lots of girls names I love but I'm struggling with boys.

Love Greta and Cora

Boys lots of Luke type boys around, bit boring now!

Orry is a nice boys name as korbyn or Corrin, if you want more unusual.

I like Max.
