Would this cause our child a lifetime of teasing?

We have been trying to put together our choice of girls/boys names and although we are miles away from agreeing on the boy's (as with DC1, thankfully she was a girl as we never agreed on anything), we both really like a particular girl's name but with one concern... Our surname is a colour and this name could be a shade of that colour (think Skye Blue). It has the added significance of being a name already in my family. Do you think the child would be forever teased? The first name itself isn't weird or really unusual, but not particularly common either. We will pick a middle name too which will break it up, but obviously people don't use their full name day to day.

Sorry if I seem a bit cloak and dagger about the actual choice, I just don't want to reveal my surname!

I'm thinking the name is Amber. I knew someone called Amber Hayes once. It didn't sound too clever to be honest.

This thread is only going to descend into people guessing the name.

Dibs on Anastasia Grey!

I am now trying to guess what the name is!

Cole Grey
Scarlett Red
Primrose Gold
Poppy Rouge
Sienna Brown

Of these I think Sienna Brown is the one most likely to be the real name, and I think it's absolutely fine and very pretty!

If it's along the lines of Skye Blue or Minty Green, I wouldn't. Can you imagine having to anticipate the same jokes every time you introduce yourself? Or the whispers and sideways glances when people come into your work and see your name badge/ the sign on your office door?

thatstoast Thu 24-Dec-15 22:40:54

oh no, i've misread it in my haste. Ignore me!

Coral Pink?

RNBrie Thu 24-Dec-15 22:41:51

Sienna Brown? I probably wouldn't. My dh has a rhyming name (along the lines of Bill Hill) and it makes pretty much everyone do a double take the first time they hear it. I have to go through the "yes his parents chose his name, no I don't know what they were thinking either..." every time. It's tedious....

Can't possibly say without knowing the name.

Ivy Green!

No don't do it. I don't know about teasing but it's a lifetime of people commenting like they're the first person ever to notice. 😡

Scarlett? Emerald Green?

I think more of a concern is that someone in the family is called it already.
