What do you think of "Patrick James Cook"?

I came up with the name Patrick for our second little boy when I Was about six months pregnant; after looking though a baby names book. My Granny was called Patricia and I was very close to her & I felt Patrick was the male version of her name. However, I've been worried about the name as I'm now thinking there is a chane it could be shortened to Pat, Paddy or even Patch. All of which I seriously don't like. Even my Granny was called Pat!

We have also considered the name George because; if baby had been a little girl, I'd have call her Georgina & Georgie for short. However, this also concerns me as there is a chance we may have a third baby and if we were to hit the Jack pot and have a little girl - I'd go for Georgina!

Now stressed out with naming our little boy who is now three weeks old & is the un- named soldier!

I hesitate to suggest this in the face of such lovely pictures but I always think you have to be careful with a name that can be construed as a verb. Especially if some unkind future schoolmate were to change the Cook to Cock for example. (Sorry)

James Patrick Cook is lovely though.

It's a lovely name, one of my dds goes to school with a Patrick (it's never shortened). I have a relative called it too, his is never shortened either my granny would have clipped the ear of anyone that tried Congratulations - he's gorgeous

Just a small warning re: Patrick. My ds has it as his middle name and has suffered a fair bit of teasing due to the character Patrick Sea-Star in Spongebob. Hopefully Spongebob will be forgotten about before your ds gets to that age, but a note of caution. (Although you also have St. Patrick and Sir Patrick Moore amongst others to counteract it with). Having said that, I love the name .

If you are unsure though, could you go for George, and call a daughter Patricia, instead?

I think of James cook, the man who found Australia. If you ever go to the delightful town of Middlesbrough it's the name of the hospital.

Why would having a girl be "hitting the jackpot"? Boys aren't the consolation prize, having a healthy baby is hitting the jackpot, regardless of sex.

My first thoughts were Captain James Cook also.
Patrick is a fairly common name in out family. One is Paddy, the others keep Patrick.

Patrick is a great name and underused now. I know plenty of them (in Ireland), some have their names shortened, others don't. PJ is a cute nn and might avoid the Pat/Paddy options (which are rubbish IMO).

Your DS is gorgeous, he needs a gorgeous name. Patrick is not a gorgeous name. All of the nicknames for it are horrible too.

I agree with a pp that James Patrick Cook sounds much nicer.
