This week I really like the name Jocelyn for a boy or a girl. DH likes it ok for a girl but point blank refuses to consider it for a boy, claiming he'd get beaten up for it. Thoughts? Would I be dooming my poor little Jos to a childhood of playground torture?

Like it for a girl. No for a boy. Just Jos might work though?

Vixxfacee Thu 01-Oct-15 22:14:44

Awful name. All I can think of is joseline hernandez.

RJnomaaaaaargh Thu 01-Oct-15 22:15:13

What about josiah?

Jocelyn is a slightly bossy girl with plaits.

EugenesAxe Thu 01-Oct-15 22:15:37

Love it for a girl; I know one and she is aka Jo.

I have known a few bits named Joss although they did get called Josh a lot by mistake. joss seems kinder for s boy than Jocelyn which seems in the same vein as Evelyn for a man. On the other hand Brooklyn has become quite popular for a boy and it's not v different.

I went to school with a male Joselyn and he was really teased. Not just because of his name but it didn't help. My friend's gorgeous 10-year-old DD, on the other hand, rocks the name

I like Jocelyn a lot for a girl, but would avoid for a boy. Joss or Josiah are cool though. Or maybe Joseph nn Joss??

CityDweller Thu 01-Oct-15 22:21:52

Love a bossy girl in plaits RJ having been a bossy girl in plaits once myself Don't like Josiah (too biblical)

Hadn't thought of the Jos/Josh mix-up william. That would irk me. I know a little boy called Evelyn!

NN Jo doesn't work with our surname, unfortunately. I guess another reason to avoid Jocelyn. Hmmm.

Lovely for a girl, bit O wouldn't use it for a boy...

CityDweller Thu 01-Oct-15 22:23:26

If we used it for a girl, I'd probably shorten it to Josie. Or Jos.

RiverTam Thu 01-Oct-15 22:23:27

I automatically assumed you meant for a boy, not sure why! Um. Not really all that keen either way.

badg3r Thu 01-Oct-15 22:30:29

I had a female roommate called Jocelyn who went by Joy. Really liked it!

SmugairleRoin Thu 01-Oct-15 22:40:29

Lovely for a girl, don't like it on a boy.
The only Jocelyn I know of is a drag queen on Rupauls drag race - it's her stage name. But she was a very lovely drag queen!

Sophronia Thu 01-Oct-15 23:15:32

I like it for a boy spelled Joscelin or Jocelin.

Radiatorvalves Thu 01-Oct-15 23:22:04

I know a boy Jocelyn. It's his "proper" name, but he has always been known as Joss, which really suits him. No serious teasing. He doesn't like the full version of his name.

CityDweller Fri 02-Oct-15 09:52:13

Yes, I guess Jocelin would be a more masculine spelling. I like it more and more for a boy the more I think about it. And Joss is such a lovey nn...
Like Joy as a female nn too.

Joslyn Fox. Wah wah <cups boob>

It's ok but not my favourite for a girl. Awful for a boy.

Owllady Fri 02-Oct-15 09:53:47

I like it for a girl
How about plain old Joseph for a boy? I like Joseph

CityDweller Fri 02-Oct-15 11:45:34

I don't know who/what Joslyn Fox is...confused
Joseph a no go, unfortunately, which is a shame as it's a good, honest name!

SmugairleRoin Fri 02-Oct-15 14:26:09

NotTodaySatan your username grin Baloney bitch, baloney!
I'd forgotten she spelled it Joslyn...

Joslyn Fox is that drag queens full name City. Do you like Jonah?

mewkins Fri 02-Oct-15 14:27:40

Lovely for a girl

Sophronia Fri 02-Oct-15 14:36:41

The one I know (male) is Jocelin nn Joss.

CityDweller Fri 02-Oct-15 18:15:09

Yes, love Jonah but it doesn't work with our last name.

Joslyn Fox sounds awesome. I have no issue with DD/DS's name having that association!

carmugz Fri 02-Oct-15 21:02:46

i might be temporarily confused if i heard a boy called jocelyn or even joslyn/jocelin but im sure i'd get used to it and its certainly a classy name. we had jocelyn/jocelin on the list for DD.
