Boy name needed surfer/unusual/nature

Please help! My DH and I have very different ideas about names. I like old and unusual but he thinks they are all posh (!) and he wants a cool surfer type name. I think they sound too American (I am in UK). I would also like a name that had a meaning in nature somehow as both our names do.

I am realy struggling. At the moment his favourite is Travis, which is ok but I think a bit American. I like Dexter but he says that is a breed of cow! Also I think it is creeping up the charts a bit. Anyway, any suggestions?! Boys name. Thanks!

"Cool surfers" I've actual known:

Charlie
Harry
Ross
Mike
...

Actually, most of my friends surf. None have particularly "surfy" names. I've known kids called "Kai", "Ocean", and a lot of Brads, etc and they've not really been the rugged outdoorsy type their parents had so clearly hoped for.

By all means, call your child what you like. But trying to impose a personality/lifestyle on them from before birth won't work.

I've known some... er, difficult Bodies.

And Oakley? Well why not call your child Quiksilver, Vans, Element, Animal, Snugg, C-Skins or any other "surf" brand.

Oh, I never knew I could feel so strongly about names! I'm usually the "if you like it you go for it" person! Sorry!

Please not Croyde, or Braunton, or Westward Ho! Or Saunton, or Crooklets, or Fistral, or Llangennith.

I'm not saying I like Oakley!Grin

We've one at our school. And an Ocean and a McCloud. Loads of Austins (Aussie you see).

Grin Savoy - can you give us a rough idea where you are?

Thanks for all the suggestions! Some I have actually put forward before like Rowan and that was a 'no'! I quite like Oakley actually. I know it's a brand but it's not that common really. I think we'll stay clear of those place names as they are places we actually go so might get some strange looks if we were at Croyde calling for our son called Croyde

I think if I had an Oakley I'd have to work hard to stop myself saying "oh, like the tree from Everything's Rosie on CBeebies?" Just for the reaction, you know? (I'm a horrible person, I know, I'm working on it)

Oakley really is common in the culture for which you're naming the child. It's not particularly cool any more in surfing. More current in snow sports, I believe.

Marci maybe we're in the same area - I know of a Reef of that description!
