I'm in love with it. Slightly worried that it's my hormones though. My DH really likes it too.
Is it too unusual? I know there are still strong connotations with "the Bear" in my parents generation but I don't really think of that.

It's a fine name. I'd use it for sure.

The bear, I agree with you, but it's a positive association in any case.

i think its a lovely name i think the connection to the bear is becoming more distant so should be fine

Its a lovely name Smilei agree i think the bear connotations are becoming more distant... When i hear Rupert i immediately think of Rupert Grint from Harry Potter, i dont know if that is helpful or not Blush

I don't like it.

Yes, Rupert Grint was the first person I thought of (after the bear) too. It doesn't seem to have done him any harm!

Queen, is there something in particular you don't like (that I might not have thought of) or is it just not to your taste?

Love it, expecting DD but if it had been DS, Rupert would have been top of my list.

Rupert Giles from Buffy. Marvellous link.

I like Buffy too Empress. I might have gone for Angel of DH hadn't vetoed it and the majority of my thoughts about that Angel weren't a bit naughty

I like it but couldn't use it personally as a friends spaniel is called it and I'd just think of him haha

I don't like it. I'd feel very self conscious calling loudly after a Rupert in public.

I really like it. Simple, rare, with a lovely sound to it

I love Rupert. I knew a Rupert growing up. Lovely name. Go for it OP. What are the nn's for Rupert? Roo? Cute.

GreenbackBoogie · 06/08/2015 21:54

I wanted a Rupert nn Roo. DH said absolutely not that it would lead to a lifetime of bullying. I disagree and still love it although we did not use it.

Rupert Everett.
Rupert Penry Jones.
Rupert Graves.

Plenty of cool namesakes there. Love it.

Oh dear - just me who hates it then. Rupert the bear is fine but otherwise it just conjures up upper class twits.

It's not just you. I think it's a marmite name.
