Jocelyn - spelling and how to pronounce, especially for a nickname!

So, high on our list for imminent baby is Jocelyn, particularly loved by my husband. But I have always said that I want a name that only has one spelling and one way that everyone assumes it’s pronounced (unlike my own!), and same goes for the nickname.

I would pronounce it Joss-eh-linn and think nickname would sound like Joss-ee. So I wondered whether anyone would pronounce/spell Jocelyn differently, and especially I can’t see how to spell the nickname so it doesn’t sound like joe-sie ! Any current/DD Jocelyns have any other nicknames?! Thanks!

The Jocelyn I know, pronounces her name JossLynn. Her NN is Joss.

I'd pronounce it 'joss-linn"

(and I read enough period literature that I'd expect a boy, not a girl)

I'd assume at first your baby was a boy. I know a Jocelyn in his 80s. I pronounce it Josslin and he goes by Joss most of the time.

The only Jocelyn I know is male (but he spells it Joscelin). I've also seen Jocelin as a spelling.

Joss-ee as a nn could be spelled Jossie or Jossy.

Oh and I'd pronounce it joss-uh-linn.

I thought the only way to pronounce it was Joss-a-lin,

I have a 10 week old Jos! Amazing name. He is a he though, a Joseph. I don't think you need to change the spelling of Jocelyn to accommodate Joss/Jossy as nickname. Joss is a pretty well known shortening of Jocelyn I think?

I pronounce it jos-uh-lin.

Joss-eh-lin, I think. I'm only familiar with the name through a drag queen on rupauls drag race (was their stage name). Don't let that put you off though op, she was a very lovely drag queen Grin

I always thought it was a girls name, luckily ds2 saw me wrapping the Disney princess jumper for his party and said his friend wouldn't like it!

This is my sister's name, although she goes by her middle name.

We pronounce it Joss-Lynn.

Joss linn here.

I quite like it, for a boy or girl. You don't need to change the spelling

Though it reminds me of Jos Sedley (Vanity Fair), but he was a Joseph I'm sure

I have two friends, both female, called Jocelyn. Pronounced with a very very quick and slight "eh" sound. So JOSS-eh-LYNN.
