What does it make you think when you hear it?

OP posts:
scatterthenuns · 02/08/2015 01:02

I like it. I don't have an immediate association for it.

scarletforya · 02/08/2015 01:03

To me it's fuddy-duddy and middle aged. It's plain and homely.

RitaKiaOra · 02/08/2015 01:09

I like it.
Associations:
a sweet GBBO contestant
Martha's harbour song
Bella Martha: German romcom that Catherine Zeta Jones remade and ruined
Oh and Martha Stewart (but she didn't immediately spring to mind as I am not American, but have heard of her).
in my head she's the yank Anthea Turner but better maybe a Mnetter from the States can confirm

MintChocAddict · 02/08/2015 01:10

Love it!!
Makes me think Vandellas

RitaKiaOra · 02/08/2015 01:11

Scarlett that's Agatha! Wink
apologies to all Agatha naming/named Mnetters, as it has become popular recently?

CordeliaFoxx · 02/08/2015 01:13

Martha Plimpton - actress big in the 90s, loved her. Think it's a nice name.

UrethraFranklin1 · 02/08/2015 01:15

Martha, my dear.

and

Hello, hello there, is this Martha? this is old Tom Frost....

RitaKiaOra · 02/08/2015 01:16

Oh she's brill. I loved Raising Hope and Parenthood and her stand on the word vagina

CordeliaFoxx · 02/08/2015 01:19

Parenthood is great, can watch it over and over! She was always quite "quirky" and wasn't afraid to be individual (I only talk in past tense as don't know any recent things about her!).

BitOfFun · 02/08/2015 01:20

I think of the Bible story about Mary and Martha. Martha is rather put-upon, but I like her. If she'd posted in AIBU, we'd definitely tell her she was NOT unreasonable to be pissed off Grin.

MintChocAddict · 02/08/2015 01:22

Cordelia She pops up in the good wife occasionally playing a really good lawyer character.

CordeliaFoxx · 02/08/2015 01:24

Not seen that, is it any good? (Sorry OP)

MintChocAddict · 02/08/2015 01:28

Yeah really good. So many good characters in it. Many of them recurring characters such as Martha Plimpton, Michael J Fox etc. Well worth a watch.
Apologies OP. As you were. Grin

villainousbroodmare · 02/08/2015 01:39

Timid housemaid with an annoying sniffle and a turned eye. Hate it.

CordeliaFoxx · 02/08/2015 01:43

Thanks Mint.

There was also a Martha in Home and Away a couple years ago.

SavoyCabbage · 02/08/2015 04:34

Dowdy scullery maid type.

sweetpeame · 02/08/2015 08:50

Makes me think of a very old lady or else a little girl under 5. Most Martha's fall into one of those age brackets!

treaclesoda · 02/08/2015 08:53

I love it. I suggested it for dd and dh was aghast. But I still love it.

OttiliaVonBCup · 02/08/2015 08:54

Don't worry about the cost.

Kikimoon · 02/08/2015 09:02

It's one of dh's favourites because of Martha Gellhorn. He thinks it's a very cool name. I think it's a plain name.

hawkmcqueen · 02/08/2015 09:26

I just think it is very harsh sounding with the 'th'

My youngest is a Martha (5 months)
I'm obviously biased but love it and have never had a face pulled, just a "how cute, beautiful name"

Hoodedmoron · 02/08/2015 09:38

Lovely name - is on our short list.

thunderbird69 · 02/08/2015 09:40

Timid and impressionable - no idea why, but that is my immediate response
