Hardly any name ideas!

After weeks of debate, dh and I have the following lists. There are virtually NO names we like enough to want to use- we either associate them too much with someone we know, don't like the nickname, don't like them with our surname, or just don't like them enough to imagine our child called it!

Boy:
William
Cameron (actually my favourite but no Scottish connections so feel a bit nervous using it)
George (least favourite, tbh, probably just a 'back up name' for possible future Ds2)

Tbh although I'd be happy using any of them, apart from Cameron, they're both still a bit 'meh' to me. Better than anything else rather than Yes! Love it!

Don't have any names of significance for a middle name for a boy, although just read about someone using Douglas as a middle name and thought William Douglas sounded lovely. I love strong Scottish names obviously! Wouldn't use Douglas as a first name as hate Doug too much as abbreviation.

Girl:
Imogen (dh's favourite)
Georgina (my favourite, although we both like both names)

If a girl, middle name will be Rose (family name).

(A while back we both ADORED Seren for a girl, but doesn't work with our surname.)

Thoughts?

I like William - William Douglas is great. George is nice too, but I'm not keen on Cameron.

Don't like Imogen, but Georgina Rose would be lovely.

I couldn't chose Cameron just because of the PM but it's a fine name and I don't think Scottish ancestry is necessary in order to use it. If we were having a boy we would probably have chosen Douglas - I think Dougie is adorable.

Personally I'm not a fan of Imogen but I like Georgina. Georgina will probably be my DD middle name.

If you use Georgina for a girl then your back up boys name is out the window :)

I prefer Georgina to Imogen though.

I like William (Billy) and Cameron is fine but I'm Scottish so we are tripping over them here.

Also don't think that William and Imogen work well as brother and sister if that's a future consideration.

William and Georgina sound nice together though.
Douglas is great as a middle name.

Given your bias towards strong Scottish names, I think these also work well for non Scots:

Andrew
Callum
Logan
Gregor
Lewis
Alastair

Another similar name for your girls list might be Jenna/Jennifer and Georgia Rose sounds lovely too instead of Georgina.

meant to add Keir to the boys list too :)

Interesting that people seem to like Georgina more than Imogen as Imogen is much higher up the charts.

Have told dh that I get the final say as I'm carrying it! He didn't really argue with that Grin

Let's just hope that we have a boy and a girl and then I can just go for William Douglas and Georgina Rose Two of each and I'll start dithering massively!

William and George are both very nice. Cameron is too prime-ministery! And will attract related jokes/comments which will be really annoying heard for the hundreth time.

Georgina is lovely and unusual. I'm not keen on Imogen.

The Cameron PM connection is fleeting. Your child's contemporaries will be largely unaware of it. And it's not really a stand-out name like, say, Miliband.

Also don't worry about sibling names "going together". It really doesn't matter.

I love Cameron, it is my Ds's middle name. I do have Scottish connections though, my dad is Scottish, though I'm English born and bred. Although no one has ever commented about it being Scottish, I think there's enough of them in England already to allow the crossover.

Funnily enough, I know a Cameron who has a sister Georgina, they are both teenagers and are really nice, sound great together, lol

I have a Cameron and no scottish connections, nobodies even mentioned the Scottish thing, or the David Cameron thing even though my Cameron was birth the year Dave was elected! If you love it use it, you're overthinking

Out of your girls names I prefer Imogen

Georgia Rose

Love Imogen and Georgina. Both were on my list but can't be used for various reasons. I like Cameron, I know an 8 year old one with no Scottish connections and as far as I know no one has ever questioned it! Also like William. In fact I like George too Smile.

William is a lovely name (I may be a touch biased) love love the name Keir that was suggested. (Again I may be biased Grin)

I prefer Georgina to Imogen. I'm not sure why as I'd have thought Imogen would be my preferred of those. I think it may be down to pronunciation.
