Help which longer form of max is best?
Do you prefer Max, Joseph or Oscar?

Maxwell, can't really choose from the3 as all rather popular now, heard so often they've become indifferent to me, if I had to it be Joseph but prefer Josiah

I have a Maximilian (only one L). We quite often call him Maximus and Maxim, though! And MIL calls him Maxwell. We're an indecisive family! grin

ajandjjmum Sun 21-Jun-15 07:46:38

We have a Max - just Max - in his 20's and it suits him well!

Sophronia Sun 21-Jun-15 10:14:17

I like Maximilian (with one L), but I think Max is fine on its own as well. There's also Maxen, Maxim or Maximus.

There is also Macsen (Maxen) that's Welsh for Maximus.

My choice out of your 3 Max names would be Maximus. I have no strong preference from your other 3 names - quite like all of them.

Roseotto Sun 21-Jun-15 11:46:31

Oh not Maximus please. It just makes me think "I am Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the north..." etc!!
Max or Maximilian.
Maxim is very posh 1930s (Rebecca etc) although I rather like it.
Joseph and Oscar are also very nice.

I would pick Maxim, as opposed to your other choices. I can imagine calling a child Maxim and Max, whereas with your other suggestions I would never use the long versions.

DD has a Mackenzie (Max) in her class.

DoNotDenyMe Sun 21-Jun-15 21:41:51

Think we'll be going with Max if dc2 is a boy. I'm not a huge fan of any of the full names though, so we'd be opting for just 'Max'.

VenusVanDamme Sun 21-Jun-15 21:46:02

I'd just use Max, not a fan of the long versions and doubt they'd get used. Also like Joseph/Joe.

I usually like a long form but in this case I prefer just Max. It's definitely a name in its own right. I also like Maxim though.

Artandco Mon 22-Jun-15 16:56:03

Maximilian

I also like Maxian

yellowcurtains Mon 22-Jun-15 16:57:35

Maxim.

PallasCat Mon 22-Jun-15 17:55:16

Max definitely holds its own as a name, doesn't need a long version. But I do like Maxim too if you specifically want it to be a shortening.

HayFeverSucks Tue 23-Jun-15 10:40:40

Maxwell, although just Max is lovely too

Marcipex Tue 23-Jun-15 13:21:26

They are all nice names, but please don't use Maximilian and insist teachers always call him by the full name. Yes, his mummy put it in writing.

MitzyLeFrouf Tue 23-Jun-15 13:27:20

Max or Maxim

Maximus and Maximillian are a bit much.

singersgirl Tue 23-Jun-15 16:34:33

Just Max is fine. Or Maxim or Maxwell. I think Maximilian is a bit of a mouthful and Maximus is rather silly. Was anyone called Maximus before that film - I mean, since Roman times? Calling your son 'Biggest' seems odd.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen Tue 23-Jun-15 16:35:27

My son was nearly called Maximilian , love the namesmile
