Louis, Louie, luis or luiz?

I was set on Henry but it is SO popular I've gone right off it :(
So finally DP and I settled on Louis but can't agree on spelling, I think it should be Louis but ALWAYS read 'Lewis' when I see Louis.

So I'd like a vote please MN, if you were to use Louis, how would you spell it?

Louis.

100%

HettyB · 22/05/2015 21:04

Louis, pronounce Loo-ee

Haffdonga · 22/05/2015 21:04

Louis

sumoweeble · 22/05/2015 21:05

Louis

SwedishEdith · 22/05/2015 21:05

Louis, pronounced Loo ee.

HettyB · 22/05/2015 21:05

I think Louie looks wrong, Luis would be pronounced Loo-ees and Luiz would be Loo-eeeez (like Louise but elongated) for me.

HTH.

Hi Furstly great nane choice - we have a Louie (hes 14 months old) we decided on Louie as my mum saw louis and pronounced it Lewis. So louie to us means there's no issue on The pronunciation. We also have Fynn (aged 4) we again chose to spell it with a Y so people didn't think it was short for Finley. Xx

Cleaver83 · 22/05/2015 21:07

To clarify we chose Louie to ensure it wS pronounced Looee

Hassled · 22/05/2015 21:08

Louis is always Looeee to me.
Luiz and Luis only work if you're Spanish/Portuguese.

florascotia · 22/05/2015 21:23

Louis is a French name pronounced Lou-ee.

Lewis is a Scottish name pronounced Lew-iss.

Those are the recognised spellings. Am sorry, but why would anyone choose anything else? Yewneek spellings are not generally helpful.

prepperpig · 22/05/2015 21:26

Louis definitely.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 22/05/2015 21:32

Thanks everyone, the plan is to pronounce it looeee but if his own mother is reading it as Lewis when she sees it then what chance does everyone else have?

cleaver that would be my reasoning too and I've seen a fair few 'Louie's' too (and my autocorrect recognises it!) so it can't be all that yoonike!

I automatically wrote it as Louis when I put it on the list and when i think of it that's the way I picture it so why when it's written down elsewhere do I read it as Lewis??

Notthecarwashagain · 22/05/2015 22:19

Louis

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2015 22:21

I'd spell it Louis to get the pronunciation Lou-ee.

Whyisitsodifficult · 22/05/2015 22:25

Arrrgghhh of course it's Louis (looeee) think of all the French kings! Lewis is like John Lewis!

Notthecarwashagain · 22/05/2015 22:26

And Prince George Alexander Louis Grin

doublepotions · 22/05/2015 22:31

Louis, prefer Henry tho and don't actually know any.

MollieCoddler · 22/05/2015 22:35

I know a luay

Didn't realise for ages but I definitely raised my eyebrows when I saw it written down

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 22/05/2015 22:36

Louis because that is the correct spelling.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 23/05/2015 01:08

Luay is hilarious Grin

I know Lewis is Lewis, there's no question about that! It's the reading Louis as Lewis that is my problem not reading Lewis as Louis!

There was a boy in my year called Louis pron. Lewis, now I think about it that is likely the source of my subconscious mix up
