Scared the new Princess will have my chosen name!

I'm really worried that the gorgeous new princess will be called my 'baby to be' chosen name! I don't mind the link, just the popularity that comes with it! Anyone else thinking the same?

Yes me too, as its a fairly traditional name but I'm hoping not. Should know soon enough. I'm due Monday and I don't want to have to announce a baby soon with the same name!

George didn't increase in popularity after prince George was born, so I don't think you need to worry

I don't think its been a problem with Prince George.

It may be a problem if your chosen name, and Kate and Williams, is Ethelreda or Gertrude.

If it's a common-ish name, I wouldn't worry.

I suppose it depends what they go for.

If it's a solid, trad top 50 name, then I don' think you need worry.

If it's a rarer royal name like Berengaria or Blanche, then you've probably got a point.

Fingers crossed for you. I would be tempted to change it if they did incase people think you are 'copying' the princess.

Good luck for Monday School - fingers crossed she is called something we haven't chosen lol

I was pregnant when George was born and worried about the same thing. Luckily we'd discounted George even though I really liked the name as a family member had a dog with that name.

Fingers crossed your names don't get stolen by the royals! Maybe you should tell us the names, Kate's probably at home now reading MN whilst breastfeeding Wink

It's Alexandra... Traditional but hopefully not their style!

She's back in KP (left hospital in a lemon/cream dress).

Expectation is that they'll be in London for a few days (and no doubt there'll be coverage of extended family trooping in to see them), then go to Norfolk for a bit of quiet and the nearest to normality they can manage.

They're not likely to use an unusual name. Alexandra probably right up their street and as it's already not uncommon it won't be a 'problem'

But as a staunch republican I'm not going to get drawn into speculating further on their potential choices

I don't think Alexandra is likely...isn't Alexander one of their son's middle names?

Report
ExcitedA3 · 02/05/2015 21:18

Yes it is! Well looks like I'll have a few more days stressing about it lol

Our chosen name is Florence and Ladbrokes were taking bets on that. We've not told anyone our name.

I'm going it would be a real outsider name though!

I think it will be Charlotte, which displeases me somewhat as it's on my list (courtesy of my husband, I favour more unusual names, generally speaking).

I do wonder how much of a say Kate actually has in naming the children. If she turns out to he named Elizabeth Diana or similar then I'd say zero.

We had a bet last week and I said Charlotte Diana.

Starlightbright1 · 02/05/2015 21:46

I think Diana or if diana has any middles names will be in there.

When I was pregnant Viv Windsor was pregnant and I couldn't have the same name child as viv...lol...I think we all are aware of who is pregnant at the time we are

Elizabeth is the middle name of both the Duchess and her mother, as well as appearing in the Duke's family.

I didn't know that, Edith. Perhaps they're lucky and are a couple who share similar naming tastes. I envy them that if so, in a big way!

The popularity thing is a myth. People don't nowadays name their babies after royal babies in droves. Beatrice never took off in the 80s, and Eugenie certainly didn't. William and Henry/Harry were beginning to regain popularity at the time anyway. Same with George, it had already been enjoying a revival. So I don't think the royal connection had much to do with it. People are just as likely to avoid the name because of it.

For all the popularity of Princess Diana, not many people named their daughters after her.

Hope they don't pinch my girls name (as they seem to be in a habit of recycling names!!)

Totality22 · 02/05/2015 23:20

PS - DD is a few months old now so even if they do use it then I got there first lol.

George didn't increase in popularity as it was already so darn popular.

I am worried about this too. I have wanted to call my dd2 Beth ever.since I had dd1. Bit worried the princess could be Elizabeth nn Beth and everyone will assume I named her after the princess! Come on Kate, call the baby something else.

Doubt it will be Alexandra as George has Alexander as a middle name. You are probably safe!

I have a hunch the new baby will be a Matilda, an old royal name that hasn't been used much. I think Matilda Elizabeth Victoria. Prince George & Princess Matilda sound very well together.
