We have decided on either Thea or Evelyn for our girl, just not sure which one to fully go for now, any opinions. We also can't decide on a middle name.

Thea Rachael Thomson
Thea Mary Thomson
Evelyn Rachael Thomson
Evelyn Mary Thomson

Any name other than Evie or anything that can be shortened to Evelyn. Round here it is the most popular name, two or three in any group or class.

Agreed, not Evie - it's rife around here as well, and I'm in Australia! Genevieve, Evelyn, Eva, Eve, Evie - all to be avoided, I think.

Thea is lovely, or Tessa.

I'd go with Thea. It's less common than Evie (if that bothers you) and it's a really pretty name.

Thea Rachael would be my choice.

I like Thea better than Evie (though both are lovely)

But Evelyn Mary is my favourite of the combinations.

Thea Rachel is lovely. Agree every nursery class will have an Evie, Eva, Ava, Ada, Evie-May, Evie-Rose, Eva-Lily etc at the moment.

Evie does seem to be popular right now (although I think I've only come across 2 in real life!) but it's a lovely name so if you like it and it's popularity doesn't bother you then go for it. Alternatively how about Evelyn no nn? My great grandmother, mum and cousin are all called Evelyn and it has never been shortened so it doesn't have to have a nn if you don't want it to. I don't think people will automatically shorten it. Don't like Thea although I'm pretty sure most mumsnetters will tell you to go for that one Wink

I liked Thea until someone pointed out that when children say it who can't pronounce 'th' they say Fea which sounds like fear which put me off a bit, but I still think it's a pretty name.

I have an Evie and I only know of one other. It's a pretty name and suits my dd, if you like it go for it!

Thea. Though it's good as short for Dorothea

DC2 was going to be Thea so that is what I would go with. We were going to use Althea or Alethea though. He was a boy though, as was DC3 so never got to use it.

Thea. Elegant, not as popular as Evie. I like Thea Mary but Thea Rachael is nice too.

I don't know many babies but I know 4 Evies under 3. One is short for Evelyn and the rest are just Evie - I would avoid. Thea is lovely.

I'd say avoid Eve/Evie, every other child is called this now. (The rest are boys)

Everyone on here is always going on about how popular Evie is. I have an Evelyn who is 3 and we are yet to come across another Evelyn and have only come across one other Evie. (We live in London) Names are popular for a reason. Evie/Evelyn is beautiful, we get lots of positive comments about it.
I think Evelyn Mary is gorgeous!

Please don't do it. This is what I hear "Eve was my friend today mummy but then I felt sorry for the other Eve so I played with her but then Evie was climbing a tree and nearly fell off onto Eva. Can Eve come to tea" Nooo Eve confusion is the bane of my life atm.

I don't know many Evies - only two under 5. I actually know more Theas (live in south-east!)! (But still only three!)

I prefer Thea of the two, with maybe a longer name like Dorothea or Althea as suggested above, so that, if Thea does suddenly become the next trending name, you have alternatives (if popularity of a name bothers you).
