i have a boy whos 6 days old. im finding it real hard to find a name. our last name is jones...i dont want anything thats j or j sounding...any ideas?

MrsHathaway Sat 25-Apr-15 13:17:07

I'm an expert in that particular problem wink

From our shortlists, including our DSs:

Adam
Alexander
Arthur
Charles
Christopher (Kit)
David
Edward
Henry (Harry)
Max
Oliver
Robert
Tristan
William

We felt we couldn't go too crazy (eg Marmaduke) or too Welsh (because we aren't Welsh or in Wales). Cutting out all the J names too didn't leave us with much!

Good luck.

Ok what names do you like? Kind of hard to suggest names without having an idea of your tastes/heritage etc.

i did have max. but then i put myself of...then i had elliott... but then i dont pronounce the 't' so it dont sound right...

i have hayden in my head or maybe leaning back towards max... dont know :/

SurlyCue Sat 25-Apr-15 13:41:14

Elliot jones is quite nice i think. Is it just that the t isn't pronounced in your accent?

GirlInTheDirtyShirt Sat 25-Apr-15 13:44:57

Lucas is a lovely name and goes well with Jones.

MrsHathaway Sat 25-Apr-15 13:49:38

Hayden is very much not my style. I think Max has a much broader appeal and is much more like Elliott in style.

Dexter? Finn? Lucas?

MrsHathaway Sat 25-Apr-15 13:50:30

Cross posted - thinking slowly...

SoupDragon Sat 25-Apr-15 13:50:35

If you like Hayden, how about Aidan.

I was mentally running through the boys in my children's classes and thought of Thomas... Maybe not with Jones as a surname smile

ajandjjmum Sat 25-Apr-15 13:50:54

We had a JJ (Junior surname) for the first six weeks of his life (infact for the first two years, although we had to make a decision when he was registered!).

We actually settled on Max.

Don't stress - it'll work out. (And 20 odd years later, we still love Max!!)

cue i dont know what it is. i guess im common maybe a southeast london thing for some.

i really like the name thomas... but yeah thats why i wont use it smile

Aubrey, Caleb, Dominic, Gregory, Isaac, Linus, Richard, Solomon, Wilbur.

emotionsecho Sat 25-Apr-15 14:14:09

Dominic Jones sounds nice, if you're going for Max are you using the full Maximillian? Maximillian Jones rolls off the tongue nicely!

If you like Max, and surname-type names like Elliott, how about Baxter (like Baxter Dury). Baxter Jones. That's quite unusual without being 'out there'.

ghostspirit Sat 25-Apr-15 14:35:42

haha secho i did not know there was more to max... i thought max was max haha.

but if i decided max it would be max.

emotionsecho Sat 25-Apr-15 14:50:33

ghost I was just imagining you using the full "Maximillian Jones" in your best exasperated voice it would sound awesome and certainly guarantee a responsegrin

ghostspirit Sat 25-Apr-15 14:58:31

haha i would sound a twat haha smile

timelyreminder Sat 25-Apr-15 15:00:13

There's Maximus and Maxwell as alternatives smile
