Caspar? Gaspard?

Hi,

My other favourite for our DS due soon is Caspar or Gaspard (I'm french...)

What is your first reaction to these? Do these sound odd or too out there, pretentious or else?

For Caspar, the friendly ghost (which is actually Casper) doesn't bother me too much.

For Gaspard, I'm worried about him having to spell it constantly and people pronouncing the d at the end (it's mute in French). Also the "gas" connection, my husband mentioned possible bullying with nn Gas-fart on the playground. I love it in France but not sure how it carries in the UK?

Our DDs are J osephine and I ris.

Thank you. :)

Your girls names are nice but your proposed boys names are awful, sorry.

I love Caspar. As I said on the other thread you have running, I have a Raphael. DD chose his name after DH and I couldn't agree. I liked Caspar and Sacha. DH didn't.

Iris is lovely (biased) and Josephine very pretty.
I like Casper, but I've not heard of the other choice and if it sounds how it looks I'm not keen on the sound.

Gaspard sounds like Gasper in English which is an old fashioned word for a cigarette.

Caspar is great.

I love Caspar. Gaspard doesn't work well in English. I like Gaston on the other hand.

DH just suggested Caspar today for our DS due in 7 weeks, I really like it!!! Not sure Gaspard works in English, I think people will pronounce the "d" at the end. And it sounds like "gasper", which just sounds a bit weird.

Caspar is lovely and goes well with your DD's names.

I don't think Gaspard would work very well in England, it does seem quite out there and you'd definitely end up correcting people all the time with the pronunciation.
