Baby names

Another plea for help with a girls name!

I have a feeling I may be posting here quite often in the coming months....

DH and I are trying to come up with a name for our DD. We tend to like quite classic, traditional names I think and have a few on the shortlist so far. I like names that can be shortened to a nice nn as well. We have a DS called Barnaby.

So, the shortlist (so far) is:

Amelia (I know there are loads around but I do love it)
Charlotte (lottie)
Katherine (Kitty/Katie)
Madeleine
Annabel

Kind of want to find something I love as much as Amelia that isn't quite as popular. But I can't imagine there's a name out there I've not thought of! What are your thoughts on the above names? And all other suggestions welcome!!

Thanks

I like them all! Charlotte is DD's middle name, kind of regret using it as a middle name as now expecting DD2 and would like to use it. Like the nickname potential of Katherine. Annabel is our first choice for DD2 (thinking Annabel Sophie?). Madeleine is pretty and I love Maddy. In fact Amelia is probably my least favourite of your list, although I do like it. There are just so many of them!
Ps DD is Felicity if that's any good to you?

I like Charlotte, but prefer Scarlett.

have you thought of Bronwyn nn Bonnie or Bronnie?

Thanks GotToBe! We clearly have similar tastes Grin. I was not at all keen on Katherine to begin with as couldn't imagine a little baby Katherine. But I do like the nn possibilities and then she could grow into the full name.

I really like Felicity but have a close friend with that name and not sure I could separate that in my mind!

I like Margot and Connie! DH likes Camilla but, again, I associate that with a friend. rockinrobin I really like Bonnie but thought it might be a bit too similar sounding to Barnaby!

Charlotte & Katherine are my faves, don't really like Amelia as its sooo popular and doesn't seem a strong name somehow. Also don't like Madeleine. Lottie and Kitty are great nicknames especially for little ones Smile

Annabel gets my vote but you have got a really nice list to choose from, all really nice names. Tough call.

I really like the name Anna.

Sometimes giving your dc the name of a friend (assuming they are nice friend) is a nice thing to do.

Constance nn Connie is lovely as a PP said, or Veronica nn Ronnie. (if it's that sound you like)

i also like:
Ophelia
Pollyanna
Daisy
Eleanor

I love Kathryn off your list and i like
nn Kate

Hi,
Was in the naming dilemma a few months again. We didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl but had more set ideas about girls name (prob because other half had me convinced that statistically, we had to have to a girl)...
Options were Sophie, Rose or Judith/Judy . Middle name Catherine Anne after both grandmothers.
I like Amelia, Charlotte and Katherine as they are quite traditional and flexible but also work in a bilingual house like ours.
We obviously ended up having a boy and the names we loved at the top of our list having been stolen by friends :-(. We named the little man Simon and realised that it went against our idea for a flexible name !
Other half liked Barnabus to which O never warmed up but Barnaby I could have handled !
Good luck!

What about Arabella?

Report
RL20 · 28/03/2015 11:23

I agree with you that Amelia is very popular. Lots of Amelia's also get shortened to Millie.
Alternatives I can think of are;
Emelia
Amelie

I also echo Arabella and Scarlett - both lovely names Smile

Also love the name Kitty!

Such a shame Amelia is SO popular, it does put me off a little bit!

Arabella-I think it's pretty but I can't imagine ever using the full name. I think she'd immediately be Bella!

I actually really love Rose but our surname is one syllable starting with R so it would sound quite abrupt. I cannot believe I'm finding it so difficult!!

Love Madeleine and Charlotte with nn Lottie. Prefer Catherine to Katherine but Kitty is sooo cute so the K spelling probably makes more sense!
