Baby names

Vada, how would you say it and what other spellings would be acceptable?

I'm loving the name Vada at the minute but worries people would pronounce it Vahdah instead of Vaydah.

Other spellings I've thought of are:

Vayda
Vaida
Veda

What do you think?

I take it you've never seen Star Wars?

I'd pronounce it they way you would want but would be thinking Darth too sorry

Don't ever dress him/her in black.

Veda is nice. I know of a Veda, pronounced Vee-da, so no unfortunate dark side associations.

Darth Vadar is what I'd be thinking.

What about Verity? Or Veronica, nn V?

Vada, Vayda, Vaida...

All remind me of the bucket-head sith Lord with chronic congestion that is Darth Vadar, sorry.

I'd pronounce it the way you don't like. And the way you do would make me think of Darth.

I would say Vayda (after I had said Darth) and I am 41 so goodness knows what a play ground full of kids would say. If you love it go with it but I think he/she (not sure of origin) may DD spend a lot if Tim going "Vada, like Darth, star wars)

Yup, like Darth...

It's only hypothetical at the minute but I love the My Girl film and her name is spelt Vada.

Dh's first comment was Darth! Grin

I would assume it rhymed with ta-dah, as in look what I just made, ta-dah! I might have to say it with has hands.

Not Tim, no Tim in Star Wars... Predictive fucking text!

Wasn't that the name of the girl in the film My Girl, with Macaulay Culkin? Unusual, quite pretty. A bit nanna ish, but isn't that all the rage? I would pronounce Vay-dah. Yy to Star Wars.

InfantHercules · 23/03/2015 20:38

X post re My Girl. If you like it, that's all that counts.

Ineed I just did jazz hands reading your post, I would feel robbed if someone introduced themselves with your version without a rabbit in a hat trick Grin

I was hoping you wanted the Vah-dah pronunciation. Because Vay-da is Darth.

But at least you'd have fancy dress sorted for life.

My first thought was 'My Girl' with Anna Chlumsky. Didn't make me think of Darth at all.

Vaida, Veyda or Veida

Pantsalive · 23/03/2015 20:44

How about Vita, like Vita Sackville-West? Although I think that was short for Victoria.

Or Zita?

I think my girl not Star Wars.

People only think Star Wars if they don't pronounce their r's properly!

The words sound very different in my accent.

I would pronounce Vada as Varda. Veda as Vaydah.

However, Vada I think Darth too and I have never even seen star wars!

What about Phaedra? It sounds similar
