Baby names

Leighantyn!....

RocketInMyPocket · 01/03/2015 13:55

This is what Dsis wants to name her DD
Its a mishmash of Lee and Anton (important people to her who died).
I understand her reasoning, think it's sweet, but can't help that I think it's horrendous Confused
What do you think?

Horrendous

DeBeers · 01/03/2015 13:57

If she wishes to honour those people that is nice. Do the names have to be combined? What about Antonia with Leigh as middle name or Leanne? It is not to my personal taste, but it is a kind gesture in memory of those she has lost.

EvilTwins · 01/03/2015 13:59

Surely Leanne is the ideal way to combine those names for a girl?

IsadoraQuagmire · 01/03/2015 13:59

Why not Leontine? At least that's an established name. Leighantyn looks odd.

RocketInMyPocket · 01/03/2015 14:01

DeBeers I 100 percent agree.
I have been trying to persuade her to go for Leanne actually being that it's an actual name.

helensburgh · 01/03/2015 14:04

It looks and sounds odd.

Lovely sentiment but there must baca nicer combination.

RocketInMyPocket · 01/03/2015 14:11

Isadora Leontine is pretty, might suggest it to her.
I think her sentiment is lovely, but the name isn't
Ultimately it's her choice, but thought maybe if could come up with some alternatives that could honour both people that I could suggest to her.
Still have another 4 months to talk her out of it! Smile

NerrSnerr · 01/03/2015 14:12

You do realise that if you google the name this comes up first (although someone on Yahoo answers wanted to call her daughter it in 2009) so if she (or anyone else) has a quick search they'll see this.

RocketInMyPocket · 01/03/2015 14:24

Oh god nerr just looked, that's probably her! (Looking at timing)
If she's been thinking about it that long, I'm going to have a DNeice called Leighantyn ain't I? Confused

SylvaniansAtEase · 01/03/2015 14:50

It's utterly horrible, so it's actually a really bad way to honour the people she wishes to - the chances are that her daughter will hate her name instead of feeling proud of the associations. Can't you put it to her that way?

So many nicer alternatives - Antonia Leigh is lovely, classic. Leanne not great but at least a proper name!

Also:

Leonie Anastasia
Leontine Anna

SunshineAndShadows · 01/03/2015 14:57

If she really wants to use that name can you try and influence the spelling. At first glance I'd really struggle to pronounce it - I think I'd say Lay-Han-Tin which isn't the name she wants.
I think it needs to be Leeanton or Leannton which at least look as if its pronounced the way she wants to say it and you can see the origin from the two names

Mrsteddyruxpin · 01/03/2015 14:58

Really weird and awful

KoalaDownUnder · 01/03/2015 15:00

I'm normally live-and-let-live about baby names. But you owe it to your niece to stop this atrocity.

Mrsteddyruxpin · 01/03/2015 15:02

Antonia is a brilliant suggestion above!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 01/03/2015 15:05

oh my word. I thought someone had fallen against the computer and it had accidentally started a thread.

You have to do SOMETHING op!

Skiptonlass · 01/03/2015 15:19

Agree. Horrendous.

Linnea (linn-ay-uh) is a lovely name where I live (sweden.) after Carl Linnaeus, the father of taxonomy :) can you suggest that to her?

It's lovely that she wants to pay tribute to family, but the name is... Unwieldy.

seaoflove · 01/03/2015 15:40

Oh dear, it sounds and looks really ugly. But it looks like she has her heart set on it!

HermioneWeasley · 01/03/2015 15:42

I couldn't work out how to pronounce it

You need to get your sister sectioned

Guin1 · 01/03/2015 15:43

How about Liana?

seaoflove · 01/03/2015 15:45

Why not Antonia Leigh. Or Leigh Antonia?

This horrific name smush is unnecessary!

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/03/2015 15:45

Antonia Leigh or Antonia Lee. Both acceptable.
Leanne - OK, but a bit meh.
Leontine Anne.
Antonina Leigh. (Antonina is Polish version of Antonia.)

Monica101 · 01/03/2015 15:48

Antonia is a lovely name

Leigh/Leah/Lee and variants all work as a middle name.

Leighantyn will truly be a burden!

OP - if your sis likes those new so much, can't she have them tattooed on her own neck rather than saddle her daughter with them for life?

BifsWif · 01/03/2015 15:49

Horrendous name. That poor child.

SauvignonSash · 01/03/2015 15:51

No no no. Just no.
