I love both names, please help me decide!

Theo
Jude

Which do you prefer and why?

Thanks!

I really like Theo.

Not keen on Jude - sounds a bit feminine to me (probably because the only Jude I know in RL is female!!)

I have a 3 week old baby boy Jude snoozing in his Moses basket next to me, so I'd have to vote for that name ;)

I think Jude is a fabulous name Smile

My friend had a dog called Theo so I now picture any Theo as an excitable, but adorable beagle puppy!

Jude sounds like a short form for Judy or Judith so a little feminine imo.
Theo is ok but very popular, if that bothers you.

Love Jude for a boy. Theo is just too popular for me now, but it's a nice name if popularity doesn't bother you.

Both great names! Theo is getting very popular though, but it's the more international name if the two.

Jude is my favourite, but doesn't work as well as Theo in many countries (which you may well not care about!).

Both names are on my boy list rigt now ... I prefer Jude but DH thinks it's a girls' name Confused.

My only issue with Theo is that in our local accent it would be Fee-oh, which isn't quite as lovely

Love both of them. I'd go Theo for first name and Jude for middle.

I prefer Jude - partly because as said above, Theo is getting to be really popular, and I think it will date a bit. I also just prefer Jude though. If you are worried about it being perceived as feminine you could have Judah as the full name and shorten it to Jude? (I love both)

I have a Jude, its a fantastic name and gets many compliments.

Theo works better internationally, but is very widely used already.

Jude is jew in German (pronounced Yoo-deh) and will not work that well in other countries/languages. I also find it a little feminine sounding in English.

People saying that Jude doesn't work internationally, can you please clarify what you mean? Do you mean it won't work so well in Arabian countries? Because otherwise I'm confused. My 13 year old Jude has lived in three countries and had no problems whatsoever. To be honest if my sons name means he isn't accepted in countries that have issues with Judaism, that's fine by me, and I support the Palestinians! If you mean something else, I'd really be interested to hear.

Jude. Amazing name.

Theo sounds overtly posh to me, like Crispin or similar.

I prefer Theo. Don't like Jude because:

  1. It reminds me of Jude The Obscure, an excellent book but very depressing.
  2. It reminds me of the song "Hey Jude" which I loathe.
  3. It reminds me of the extremely repulsive Jude Law.
