Casper or Spike???

Hi, I'm almost 38 weeks pregnant and since I was 3 months pregnant, we had settled on Casper as a boy name. But since last week, my DH is REALLY fond of Spike. He thinks it's adventurous, cool etc... I can't make my mind now, what are your thoughts?

Love Casper.

Spike for me is an animal name, sorry!

Casper is a ghost. Spike is a dog.

I know someone who called their son Spike. They do get a lot of dog comments...

Spike is a dog or well you know just a spike
Casper is a friendly little ghost
Out of the two go with Casper please don't name you child a dogs name

Give him the name Casper, but let your DH call him Spike as a nn if he wants, (they've both got a "sp" sound in, so why not?) Spike will be really cute as a nn when your DS is little, but could well be the sort of name your DS will grow out of when he gets older.

Yes give him Casper as his official name and call him Spike if you really must!

I love Spike.

Not brave enough to use it as a name for my own children, but a great name nonetheless.

btw - Spike reminds me of the character in Buffy The Vampire Slayer (who is quite cool), not a dog as suggested above.

I don't think of Spike as a real name TBH - it's more of a nickname to me. I love Casper :)

I have a Spike. It's a nickname though and he has a proper MN-approved name as well.

Casper!

Spike.

No question.

My first thought was Buffy too..

Spike isn't a nice word to me. My first thought is obviously an unpleasant sharp thing, then it's a cartoon dog.

Casper is a decent name, but there's the ghost thing for potential teasing. Just hope he doesn't have a pale complection.

I prefer Spike. But not sure I'd be brave enough to use it myself.

Not keen at all on Casper.

squoosh · 20/10/2014 12:55

I think Cass sounds like a much cooler nickname than Spike.

I'm not sure the ghost thing would be a problem among the child's peers now, would it? It's not still a popular movie I don't think?

Tbh i'm not keen on either but if i had to choose i'd go with casper.
However i have a friend who has a jasper which gets away from the friendly ghost comments.

Spike is a bulldog. Usually one if the droolier ones, a bit thick for a bulldog but loyal. Would be ridiculous on a child.

I prefer Casper out of the two. Spike could be a mn?

Alisvolatpropiis · 20/10/2014 18:02

Casper.

Because you're unlikely to give birth to a puppy.

Spike would be a cute nickname though.

merrymouse · 20/10/2014 18:04

Agree with Twirly - Spike is great, but it's really a nick name.

cherrybombxo · 20/10/2014 18:10

Spike will always be Spike from Buffy to me.

Casper is a cartoon ghost.

Just no.

Casper! I absolutely love this name, and it's in our top list of boys names :)

Casper and it's variants is very popular around these parts (all of my dcs have at least 1 in their yr group)

I've never seen Buffy but for some reason Spike makes me think of a toddler arsing around on a tow path while his braying parents drink gin in Boden and mustard jumbo cord trousers Confused

Maybe it's because it sounds like a nickname, so I've mentally put it in the PG Wodehouse nice but dim category in my head.
