Need MN testing of chosen name

Pretty set on Cassia Rose for forthcoming DD but am aware it is something of a marmite name on here so I'm interested to see if any of the arguments against it can put me off. So, if you are not a fan of the name, please tell me why. If you do like the name then would you choose it yourself? If not, why not? Alternative suggestions are welcome too.

I much like it, although I do at first think of Casio keyboards...?

2LittleFishes · 17/10/2014 15:09

I like it too- but also thought of Casio Grin

I wouldn't let it put you off tho, its very pretty.

WestEast · 17/10/2014 15:11

I like Cassia, didn't think of keyboards. Not over keen on Rose, find it a bit twee.

Report
Boglin · 17/10/2014 15:39

Hmm, don't mind the Casio association, it's nothing heinous. Keep them coming! Grin

WestEast I get what you mean and I'm not a twee person at all, it flows nicely with our surname though and I haven't yet found anything I like better. Can you suggest anything?

Hi OP - sorry, how would you pronounce Cassia? Like Cash-a or Cass-ee-ya?

Report
WestEast · 17/10/2014 15:48

I'm a traditional middle name person myself, so I'd be choosing my mums name as a middle name, not sure that's much help to you though! Smile

Report
Boglin · 17/10/2014 15:59

Oh yes, should have put that in the OP. It'll be Cass-ee-ya. I like both pronunciations but I'd spell Cash-a as Kasia as that's how I'm more used to seeing it spelt.

It's something to think about though, how often she will have to correct people on the spelling or pronunciation. We were between this and Cassidy at one point but then watched a film with a stripper named Cassidy so that made our minds up! I like the Cass/Cassie sound so have also considered Cassandra and Cassiopeia but they are both a bit on the pretentious side (especially for where we live) and we're not posh enough to pull them off!

Depends WestEast, what's your mum's middle name? Grin

We have already used a family name with our DS so a family connection would be nice. Will have a think about what names are available to us, cheers!

I like Cassia, its pretty.

Rose has been overdone IMO, every baby girl In know has some sort of floral name, mostly rose or daisy.

Report
Spindelina · 17/10/2014 16:10

You will come across umpteen other small girls with Rose as their middle name. And some people may judge you as being unimaginative. If neither of those things bother you (not saying they should, btw), then go for it.

If she will be known as Cassie or Cass, I don't think casha/casseeya is a problem.

fishfingerSarnies · 17/10/2014 16:11

I like Cassia but not keen on Rose but as it's a middle name it doesn't bother me too much.

I know one Cassia
It's nice, not overly used

CrumpleHornedSnorkack · 17/10/2014 16:17

It's the lead character in the YA dystopian Matched series, get in now before they make it into a film and everyone is using it!

RabbitSaysWoof · 17/10/2014 16:17

Cassia is nice Rose as a middle name has been done to death, seems like Rose, Mae and Rae are the only acceptable middle names now.

Report
moxon · 17/10/2014 16:22

In the single syllable realm
Cassia:
Leigh
Dawn
Fee
Joan
Greer
Eve

Report
RabbitSaysWoof · 17/10/2014 16:38

Oh Dawn is nice as a middle name.
Can I also offer:
Gene
Grace
Niamh
Jude
Nel

Cassia is nice (although I much prefer the cash-a pronunciation) and Cass and Cassie are both great nicknames.

Rose, shmrose however. I'd like to give that name a dose of Roundup weed killer. It's everywhere these days!

I like Cassia but not keen on Rose.

Other short names:

Cassia Thea
Cassia Juno
Cassia Wren
Cassia Margot
Cassia Nell

Or longer:
Cassia Theodora
Cassia Indiana
Cassia Leonora

But as pp say Rose is meh, how's about;
Cassia Faith
Cassia Grace
Cassia Willow
Cassia Mary

Congratulations Thanks

I think part of the reason Rose is so popular is that it doesn't end in 'ee' or 'a'.
How about names ending in 'en': Merryn, Lauren etc

AlpacaYourThings · 17/10/2014 22:02

Sorry, I do not like it at all.

It's nice but I think you'll get lots of people pronouncing it Cash-a

Report
Aherdofmims · 17/10/2014 22:06

I like it.

Boglin · 18/10/2014 08:32

Thanks for the replies, I'm really surprised that Rose has invoked such a reaction though, I thought it was quite innocuous! Have been having a think about alternative middle names and Elizabeth is now on the table (MIL's middle name) and Seren (nod to Welsh ancestry). I like a lot of the suggestions made as well so will give them consideration.

Alpaca no need to be sorry but could you elaborate on why you don't like it? I need to see whether any reasons against it are strong enough to put us off the name as I don't want to lumber her with something ridiculous.
