Cannot find a name we BOTH like (girl)

Just had it confirmed number 2 is indeed a little girly and we are stuffed. We had no girls name agreed last time (ended up with a boy thankfully - but had he been a girl he'd have probably ended up being called "baby girl")

We have already been discussing girls names but need to get cracking now we know for sure.

I love Amber but it's our cats name. I did actually start a thread.. there was a pretty even split as to whether or not it's acceptable to name baby after a cat.

Also liked Indiana but every single person in RL I have mentioned it to has disliked it. I can handle a little dislike but this has been unanimous.

OH suggests names then goes off them. The only thing he hasn't gone off is Isabelle but I am not using the most popular name from 2013. If you combine the different spellings (Isabelle, Isabel and Isobel) and the variations (Isabella) it was by far the most popular name!!

Our son is a top 10 name so I am not adverse to popular names per se. But I like classic.

So far between us we've looked at - but ruled out

Elizabeth is the best name ever biased because there are so many lovely nicknames and it is classic without being a top 10 name or being old fashioned. Beautiful.

Imogen and Jasmine are also lovely.

Hmmm, I do like Elizabeth but it's kind of been the 'go to' middle name.

Did mention Eliza but that got vetoed. I prefer Elizabeth to all of the variations / diminutives.

I am sure there are loads of other names we've discounted.

Last time OH mentioned Erin which I loved, he then "went off" it !!! Did the same with Holly.

All my dc's(5) names came from our favourite characters off tv/films.
So my advice is to attach some sentiment to the name. You could also do some homework on both your ancestors & find a family name that you both love.

I think Elizabeth would be a great choice as a first name. I agree it was overused in the 70s and 80s (speaking personally here) as a middle name, but these days I think Rose, May and Grace have taken on this role.

I know two young Elizabeths. One is always 'Elizabeth' the other is 'Lizzie'. Both names suit them beautifully.

Elizabeth is a great first name, we'd use Lilibet as a nn if we used it.

I looked at people that I'd met with names I liked, and looked at their character, did they have the sort of character that I'd like my daughter to have when she grew up. I found a name that way.

It could be colleagues, friends, family, acquaintances, it's quite a good way of choosing because you can see a person behind the name.

Elizabeth would be a great choice. Lots of nn potential & it's a beautiful classic.

If you wanted to change it just a little, you could spell it Elisabeth. To me, that spelling has less of a 'middle name feel' to it for some reason.

I had this dilemma with DD, found out the sex at the 20wk scan and spent the next 19 weeks trying to decide, eventually gave up and decided her name would come to us when she was born. We finally decided on her name at the eleventh hour when she was 7 weeks and one day old, and only then because we were at the registry office having been threatened with a fine for not registering her birth. We called her baby Jen, or "girl of Jen" (an affectionate term as this was what was written on her wristband in hospital) for nearly 2 months.

DD is 11.5 years old now and I'm still not happy with her name, it does suit her as that has been her name for all that time but I've always used nicknames, I've never told her I'm not overly keen on her name but she has said that if she could pick her own name it would have been Roxy!

It's weird, I didn't have any trouble finding a name for my second born-DS, I picked his name 20 odd years before he was conceived, it's not because I favour boys, just that I really struggle with girls names.

I LOVE Indiana! And my DH loves Indie, so we have it as top of the list at the mo. We do like slightly more unusual names though... Once baby's here, if you name them something you love, they just become that name and people tend not to be rude.
Anyhow, as we agree on Indiana, and also like Elizabeth for family reasons, here's some of the more classic girls names we considered:

Reason we are looking at names already is we genuinely didn't have one we agreed on at 41w last time {thank God baby was a boy!} but it makes me very worried as this time we know it's a girl.

Going to trawl through some websites at lunchtime and see what I can find.
