Hi all. DH is still really struggling with my name choices but we both really love Isabella. I'm not a big fan of using names in the family even though we don't see my distant cousin and her child much we still communicate on social media etc, so I would feel uncomfortable using this name.

Are there other names which are like Isabella or names I might like if I like Isabella?

So far my list has
Astrid
Verity
Matilda
Erin
Heather
Noelle
Meredith - I don't think I can pull this off.
Georgie

I like old fashioned names - no offence meant but no baileys and Rileys. And while I used to love Olivia, Ava - so many kids have those names now.

I saw Isadora as an option earlier. Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you sure it wouldn't be ok re your cousin, esp if she is not even a first cousin. It really seems a shame not to use the name you both love.

For some reason I associate Imogen with Isabella. Or Isobel Wink
Elisabeta, Elisaveta, Elisabet (could use s or z).

Think Isabella v v popular in USA right now.

CleopatrasAsp · 23/08/2014 04:24

Arabella is a beautiful name.

AuntieStella · 23/08/2014 07:17

Elizabeth and variants eg Elspeth

Other timeless classic pan-European Royal names eg Alexandra, Charlotte, Katherine, Anne, Margaret (and variants eg Margot), Juliana

Araminta?

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 23/08/2014 07:23

Gabriella?

I love Arabella though

burgatroyd · 23/08/2014 07:24

Its got to be Christabel/la

I know a very clever, beautiful adult one. Then there's the Pankhurst connection.

Isabella and all its variants very popular right now.

CoreyTrevorLahey · 23/08/2014 07:29

Meredith is lovely! But I like Georgie best from your list.

Agree there are lots of Isabellas around but it's still a very nice name. I'm not keen on Arabella because it's seen as a fusty old lady name in Italy, but that's purely personal.

Kantha · 23/08/2014 07:36

Isabella/Isabel etc are just about as popular as Olivia and Ava, so I would avoid Isabella if you think this is something that would bother you.

Arabella (already suggested) immediately sprung to mind
Annabel/la
Just Bella on its own
Ella
Eleanor
Fenella
Felicity
Theodora
Philippa/Pippa

It seems like it's quite popular. Thank you for the suggestions. My other dd's name is a variant of Elizabeth. I had Margot on the list but DH absolutely hates it.

I'm just not sure I can pull Meredith off but like it.

Amabel

burgatroyd · 23/08/2014 15:26

Its not as if Meredith is a name like Flower-Phlix! Itsanormal name. A great name in fact.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/08/2014 15:29

I don't think many of your listed names are as nice as Isabella, or similar to it, sorry. Noelle and Georgie are horrible, imvho,

Isadora is nice. I love Isobel and also really like Ishbel and Isolde. Christabel is nice, as below.

KittiesInsane · 23/08/2014 15:31

Well, Isabella is a variant of Elizabeth too, so maybe best avoided.
My random thoughts to add to your list would be Frances, Phoebe or Rosa.

Sophronia · 23/08/2014 16:39

If your daughter's name is a variant of Elizabeth then I wouldn't use Isabella - it's also a variant of Elizabeth.

Sophia
Georgina
Isidora
Mirabelle
Mirabella
Christabel
Clarabel / Clarabelle / Claribel
Aurelia
Mariana
Alessandra
Beatrice
Cordelia
Francesca
Delilah
Helena
Jemima
Liliana
Susanna
Charlotte

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure why it's more difficult this time round.
