What do you think of Rupert and Walter?

Both names slightly out of my comfort zone and within my "great names but would I really call my son it..?" zone but I have a soft spot for both.

Especially liking Roo and Walt for nicknames.

What do people think of them?

Love Walter! Not too keen on Rupert, though I don't know why - it's not a horrible but not a name I would pick.

Stupid phone! Was meant to say I find them both a bit 'wet' if Im honest.
Not to my taste, sorry.

Yep, wet. Sorry.

Not Walter.

Rupert is ok

I said this on another thread where somebody was considering the name Walter, but its the name of a "character" in the family tree we've just done (several wives, some at the same time, children with the maid, mad-cap businesses etc.) so I've got a bit of a soft spot for the name!

They're both fine. I prefer Walter of the two.

I don't think Rupert is 'wet' at all, the opposite really but then I know two who are both quite 'boisterous'. I like the name. Walter, hmm - I do get the 'wet' thing a bit, but I'm not sure that is reasonable and in other ways I like it. I think it could grow on me and Walt is kind of cool.

wouldn't choose them but i like Victor and Howard which sound a similar age category. so i don't dislike them as much as most people will i suspect

LOVE both. 'Wet' is such a horrible word to describe names.

Love rupert! Walter just makes me think of Walter White from breaking bad..

DeadCert · 19/08/2014 02:26

Bit wet. Sorry.

How about Reuben if you like the nickname Roo?

Report
Squirm · 19/08/2014 02:39

Rupert and Roo are very wet. Reuben is even soggier.
Walter on the other hand is flippin amazin!

I know an adult Rupert. Tough as nails, nothing wet about him at all!

There was an article in the papers last week about the surprise increase in babies called Walter... Believed to be linked to Breaking Bad... Wouldn't be my first choice!

DS's middle name is Walter after my grandad. We now live in the US and everyone thinks he's named for Walter White from Breaking Bad... There's also the Disney connection! I think it's a much more popular name stateside than in the UK to be honest. Personally I don't like Rupert but I know a Rupert in the UK who's almost 3 so it's not unheard of.

Love Rupert and Roo. I know a toddler and a (vair posh London property type) 30 year old.

Walter - no.

I love Walter but would be put off that people might nickname him Wally!

I know a man who changed his name to Rupert. I always have a sift spot for that name because he was my favourite bear.

Was? IS!

I love Walter but Breaking Bad has ruined it for me. Rupert is cool too and I love Roo.

You can't call a child Walter! It's not a young boy's name.

I like Rupert but I am a Jilly Cooper fan. I'm not fond of Walter and I don't really know why.

Report
mysteryfairy · 19/08/2014 06:59

Walter reminds me of the Softy from Dennis the Menace so feels quite wet to me too.

There is a Rupert local to us and contemporary to my DS1 so 18 now. His name has always been greeted with some consternation/amusement so I would say if you live somewhere like Yorkshire it's probably not a good idea.
