I hate the word chavy. But no, it is a popular name across many socio economic groups and I don't think it is pigeonholed. It is like Thomas or Sam.

No it's not, but asking that question is. FFS.

Only if the family he comes from is. Honestly! [rolls eyes]

Unless you spell it Leeyo/Leigho or hyphenate it then it's chavvy

No.

HTH.

Absolutely NOT!

It is a traditional classless name.

har har har - pigwitch - that made me properly chortle. Oh the horror of it. As a side issue - you've made me want to go dig out my Tiffany Aching books.

No it's lovely! The Leo I know is very nice, 29 and has a well paid job in the city. As other's have said it's a pretty classless name.

Not chavvy, but not a name I like. If you like it go for it.

Where are you getting that from OP?

scarletforya · 11/07/2014 19:06

I don't think so but honestly, who cares?

Leo, Leon, Rocco, I love those names, I think they transcend class because they sound great.

I think Leo is strong and masculine. I really like it.

I don't think so. But if you're really worried why not go for an extended version (Leonard/Leon or perhaps even Laurence) so that you have the option to extend out?

I am assuming the OP is of the age where Leonardo di Caprio was a heart throb and is worried that it sounds a bit named-after-a-sleb? I am of a similar age and I would sadly like to inform that no one thinks of that any more because - despite my best efforts - it's no longer 1999. Wink

Hope not, it's ds's name! I'd never met another one when we named him but it's become more popular since - have only met 2 others in 7 years though! Neither seemed chavvy ;-)

I always thought names ending in "o" were a bit MC.

Arlo, Ivo, Hugo, Milo, Jago, etc.

This is top of our list too if we have a boy. Secretly we like Leo cos of West Wing but not sure we'll ever admit that in real life ...
I don't think it really has any class connotations. I would quite like a long version, but Leonard would surely just get shortened to Len?! And Leonardo and Leopold are a bit OTT...

I only know one Leo, he's a second cousin once removed or some such and he's one of the poshest people I know, think it's fine as long as you don't muck about with the spelling Smile
