Dh and I have just had our 3rd dc - a boy.

We have decided on the name Jadon, however I am having second thoughts and not sure what to do.

I like the name in the biblical sense it's intended, but I know it seems to get a lot of negativity on here.

Ds seems to suit the name and I like it but because of what I've read, I seem to cringe when I say it!

We have a list of these:

Jadon Michael
Jadon Arthur
Jadon Alexander
Jadon Oscar

Opinions please?

I thought it was spelt Jayden? Your spelling looks feminine to me.

Teardropsonthedancefloor Mon 07-Jul-14 19:09:06

The biblical masculine spelling is Jadon.

I'm coming out loud and proud in support of Jadon. I like the name and I don't care if people consider it [shock, horror] lower class. Start the backlash, OP - you'll be a trendsetter!

I also really like the name Arthur, but I'm not sure how well the two work together. Jadon Michael and Jadon Alexander both work fine. How about Jadon Noah, or is that getting a bit too biblical?

AuntieStella Mon 07-Jul-14 19:13:56

I'd go for Jadon Michael.

But be ready for most people not knowing it's an OT name.

HaroldLloyd Mon 07-Jul-14 19:15:13

I like Jadon Alexander the best out of your list.

OP have you ever seen a Jadon/Jayden thread before?

They tend to cause all hell to break out on MN.

Drinkingpimmsinmygarden Mon 07-Jul-14 19:16:19

I think people would assume he was calledJayden. Sorry bit I am not keen.

Teardropsonthedancefloor Mon 07-Jul-14 19:19:32

What does OT name mean? blush

Yes I've seen the Jayden threads...I'm hoping mine has been cleverly disguised as it's Jadon grin...

BlueStarsAtNight Mon 07-Jul-14 19:20:14

It's not a name I'd choose, but once it's a person's name pretty much all pre-conceptions abut a name go out of the window. I have a friend with a lovely Kayden. I wouldn't like it ordinarily, but it's really just him now!

OTOH, I couldn't choose a name that I cringed when saying......

I didn't know it was biblical by the way.

exexpat Mon 07-Jul-14 19:20:16

This was the last Jayden thread. It did not go well.

OP, I think Jadon/Jayden is one of those names that will always provoke a reaction on MN, as it is a 'new' (or at least newly popular, even if it is biblical) name, was popularised by some rather trashy celebrities like Britney Spears, and is generally not seen as a 'naice' middle class name.

If you like it, go for it, but it's probably as well to be aware of the associations/image that name has for some people.

Bowlersarm Mon 07-Jul-14 19:20:40

I think although it sounds nice, it has a bit of a label.

It is not only you who has to not care, it's your DS as well.

However, if you like it go for it. I prefer Alexander as a middle name.

exexpat Mon 07-Jul-14 19:22:07

I don't think the Jadon spelling makes much difference, I'm afraid - people will just think it's just another tweaked version - Jaden/Jayden/Jaydon/J'ayden etc. And they will probably mostly spell it in the most popular way, i.e. Jayden or Jaden.

Scabetty Mon 07-Jul-14 19:22:52

It's a good name. Honestly mumsnetters are not the authority on acceptability. You like it? Go with it then. One mumsnetter said Aiden was a made up name ffs. Names are popular regionally and no name belongs more to one class than another.

Drinkingpimmsinmygarden Mon 07-Jul-14 19:22:54

I assume OT = Old Testament

SanityClause Mon 07-Jul-14 19:23:33

Why are you doing this, OP?

Could you not start a nice thread about toilet brushes or P&C parking, instead?

I would think it was a typo and his name was Jason. Honestly.

HaroldLloyd Mon 07-Jul-14 19:23:51

I wouldn't.

HaroldLloyd Mon 07-Jul-14 19:24:42

Why don't you go for Ptolemy.

KatieKaye Mon 07-Jul-14 19:26:01

If you and DH like the name, don't be put off by negativity here.
A name is a name - we all have personal feeling about the most innocuous names, far less the more unusual/popular/classical names.

Some people may judge. But then they might equally judge someone called John or Mary by thinking their parents couldn't be bothered, rather than the fact that they probably loved the name!

And as said above - your little boy will make the name his own.

Jadon Michael and Jadon Alexander are my favourites.

AuntieStella Mon 07-Jul-14 19:31:25

Yes, DrinkingPimms I meant OT = Old Testament

Gingerjv Mon 07-Jul-14 19:45:13

I love Jadon!! really love! Jadon Alexander sounds the best to me;-) though i like Arthur and Oscar more. But not fit good to Jadon to my mind

MamaLazarou Mon 07-Jul-14 19:55:51

Is it pronounced the same as Jayden? I've never come across it before.

Teardropsonthedancefloor Mon 07-Jul-14 19:58:18

Yes pronounced Jay-den .

We will probably shorten his name to Jay as he gets older .

Badvoc2 Mon 07-Jul-14 20:00:38

I don't like it personally - but if you and your dh do than that's all that matters.
From your list I prefer Jadon Alexander.
