Jean for a girl????

My OH has come up with this name...it has some significance, my beloved nans name, and due date happens to be her birthday, however I don't know if I like it or not...some days I think it's lovely other days I think eeurgh!

Not helped by the fact we have chosen an amazing boys name that I love, so don't want to have any regrets with girls name.

What do you think, and could you suggest any similar names? Please be gentle and kind, don't want to read any nasty responses, too emotional for that! Haha

I love it. It's one of my top picks for a girl. But if you don't love it, don't use it. It makes a great middle name if you want to keep it for the significance.

Would Jane be too obvious a suggestion?

Well i quite like it. I havent heard of any others. Not sureif it is due a revival or not. Like so many other older fashioned names have done. But i was actually wondering thw other day if it might become popular again soon. I think it would be cute.

Definitely prefer jean to Jane, I think I do like it, I just worry that it's not a child-friendly name...but then they aren't children forever!

I think it will be used more but it won't be popular

Jane has been fashionable in a simple, understated way for a few years now. Jean seemed a bit crustier, a bit more of a statement, but I think it will come back a bit.

I like it - but would only use it as a middle name

I think you'd end up calling baby Jeanie, which is pretty cute :-)

I think it's fine.

You might like to consider spelling it Jeanne (especially if you have any Francophone connections as Jean is a boys name in French).

Jeannie is a lovely nn.

I like it.

(Although it does remind me of growing up in late 60's/70's when every other neighbour seemed to be a Jean. And my mil. And my aunt)

It's due a revival, I think.

my DD2'S middle name due to family reasons on DH side. Not my fave but think it's ok as a middle name. Goes well with lots of first names I think

I like Jean, but would Joan be another option?

love the name and a close family member spells it Jeanne, which I really like.

If you like it, and it has significance for you (and your family) then you should use it.

I think Jeanie is a lovely nn for a baby/little girl if Jean seems a bit grown up.

Fine as a middle name, but definitely not as a first. It's a very unattractive name imho. 'd use it as a middle thoughts it's a family name

It's a great name. So refreshing in a sea of Isabellas, Seraphinas and all the other long frilly names so popular at the moment. I have a good friend called Jean and she is often known as Jeannie, which is sweet. You could also consider Gina.
