I was really tempted to Angus for ds, little Gus! We bottled it in the end, it felt to "look at me" for me IYSWIM...

But if you wouldn't feel silly shouting it across the park then go for it Grin

Also depends where you are. Angus is a totally normal, although not hugely common name in Scotland. Have never heard a boy called Kester.

I know little Anguses from birth to 100, really like it.

Never heard of Kester?

Murdo, Calum, Malcolm, Logan, Lorn, Brodie, Struan, Gregor, Donald (Domhnall), Auley, Aidan (Aodhan), Seonaidh, Pol (all names at my dc's Gaelic speaking school).

Angus

Kester makes me think of Kestrel.

Kester makes me think Keister "buttocks". Angus is much better.

I love kester, its top of my list for the next one. My son is lachlan.

Knew a kid when I was very called kester, he was seriously cool, well cool for a 6 year old.

I like both but pick kester its cool, new and old at the same time, its just a great name

Angus is a great name, I love it.

I work with a girl whose husband is called Hamish, I really like that too.

I thought Kester was the old English version of Christopher?

I've never heard of Kester, but it's quite nice.

I do like Angus a lot, though.

I've never heated of kester.

Tbh I'm not keen on all these old fashioned Scottish boys names that are trendy atm.

All the Angus, hamish, Harris, ruraidh (x million spellings) etc

They're all to captain Birdseye for me.

I prefer Kyle, Cairn, Ross, Scott, Lachlan, Kirk, James type names

The only reason I've heard of Kester is because in the Chalet School books Madge had twins called Kevin and Kester, I always thought Kester got the better end of the deal!

I agree with Weegiemum. In the part of Scotland where I live - over 150 miles from Glasgow - I know men and boys named Lewis, Harris, Donald, Dougal, Callum, Angus, Duncan, Andrew, Niall, Kenneth, Allen, David/Davie, Alexander, Robert, Hugh, Malcom, Eoghan/Ewen, James, Scott, Gordon, Iain, Andrew, Campbell, Cameron, Alasdair, Archie, Innes, Colin, Seamus/Hamish, Tormod, Liam ... etc etc. All perfectly everyday names...

Oran is a bit of a newcomer, but gaining popularity fast. (Both old names, making a comeback.)

I've never met a Kester, in or out of Scotland. There was only 1 baby named Kester in the whole of Scotland in 2013: www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files2/stats/popular-forenames/2013/babiesnames-2013-t4.pdf, compared with 93 Christophers www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/files2/stats/popular-forenames/2013/babiesnames-2013-t1.pdf
