Clara or Aurelia? (and boys names suggestions in the same vein)

We are due in 2 months and are torn between Clara (would pronounce it Cl-ar-a not Cl-air-a) and Aurelia (Aw -ree-lia). Which is your favourite? Is Clara going to get very popular? It's steadily climbing, but not in the top 100.

We are pretty stuck for boys. I really like Rufus, but DH is not keen at all. I don't really have any other boys names, not even a shortlist. Very grateful for your thoughts and for any suggestions...

Clara.

I like Isaac or Alexander for a boy, but that's just me.

Love both Clara and Aurelia. Our dd has one of these as her middle name. Our ds is Quentin.

A friend had Aurelia as her girls name but had a boy and called him Benedict. Another friend has an Aurelia and called her second, a DS, Elliot.

Aurelia. It's gorgeous!

Clara, or Conrad for a boy.

Misspilly88 Thu 12-Jun-14 15:52:03

Only like Clara, it's so pretty.

Ohhhh Aurelia is stunning! puts on secret future shortlist. Its got arather Shakesperean feel, have you looked at Shakespearean boys names? I've always been rather fond of Lysander.

Clara by a mile. I have a soft spot for it because of the Heidi story.

Really not keen on Aurelia. It sounds a bit Disney princess to me. (Apologies to those with Aurelias)

maggiethemagpie Thu 12-Jun-14 18:43:36

I like Clara. Aurelia sounds a bit too poncy to me.

I have a Clara - it's ace. Suits a girly or none girly girl. Not so unusual that people have never heard of it, but you don't find many in any one school if any. We know just two others - one 10 years older and one the year below in our old nursery.

Aurelia.

Titus (tye-tis) for a boy?

Love love love Clara! That was our girls name but we had a boy.

Our dd is called evalyn.

burgatroyd Thu 12-Jun-14 19:47:08

Clara. Pretty name

NauseousKitty Thu 12-Jun-14 20:35:22

Aurelia. Mine was born three weeks ago so I may be biased smile

Our boy name was Jago or Phineas if that helps?

BethanFaye Thu 12-Jun-14 21:22:37

Clara is gorgeous. Not too keen on Aurelia, I think I pronounce it wrong though, I say 'Or-relli-ah'.

Boys names I like are:

Leo
Jake
Owen
Aspin
Alexander
Harry

Both nice names although I personally would find the inevitable variations in pronunciation of Aurelia very frustrating.

I really like Rufus. How about Hugo or Kit?

Itisafact Thu 12-Jun-14 21:50:26

Aurelia although you could have pronunciation issues with it, there was a thread on it the other day.

I think Ophelia is similar

Clara, lovely name, and would be my first choice.
I do like Aurelia, but think it would be a more difficult name to live with.

I really like Rufus very much.

BeckaH123 Fri 13-Jun-14 14:33:05

I don't like Aurelia at all sorry. Clara is lovely.

I have a Cosmo and if he'd been a girl, he would have been a Persephone or Aurelia (DH Italian).
