Erasmus

grin

came across this today, Charles Darwin's grandfather. Just thought, you aren't likely to see that one on a baby names thread.

reminds me of a Lord Peter Whimsy novel where the characters in the village are called Obediah, Jeremiah, Hepzibah and so on.

I don't know I never expected Archie or Arthur to come back.

I do know little Obediahs, Jeremiahs and Hepzibahs. I also know a Zebedee.

Keith isn't going to make huge waves in the Baby Names threads any time soon. Nor Nigel or Roy.

Dionysus
Xerxes
Wayne

I actually quite like Erasmus grin

Oh that is interesting, I know little Isaiah and others but haven't come across Obediah, Erasmus etc.

I don't dislike them, they are very much names of their time, they sound odd only because it is out of fashion to use them. Maud, Esme etc all sounded very Victorian, but not any longer.

Malcolm and Gaye too

(I suggested Isambard to DSis when she was stuck for a boys name)

I currently have on my caseload a gorgeous 3 year old called Barry. And a Dennis. We had a Jeremiah last year. Morris is quite popular at the moment...

Catrin Thu 22-May-14 22:20:49

Oh and I know 3 Erics under 5!

Delphiniumsblue Thu 22-May-14 22:22:41

They all make a comeback in time.

well, I suspect it will be a long time before adolf comes back. I wonder if it is used in German speaking countries?

"Kelly
Louise
Hayley
Michelle
Lauren
Josie
Becky"

this list is interesting because when I was a kid most of these names had not even arrived yet (no Kellies or Laurens in those days) but they are all out of fashion now.

I love Isambard. It's funny how you hear this (as in Isambard Kingdom Brunel) and I don't think of Isambard as being a first name that someone gave to a baby!
