Silent lurker for about three months, but never posted before.

Four days ago I gave birth to our gorgeous DD. She really is a glorious little babe! Inbetween waiting for the whole world to fall out of my fanjo, for, despite the 12 stitches that feels like what is going to happen, salt baths and twice hourly breastfeeding sessions, we need to think of a name for our beautiful girl.

From 21 weeks, we thought I was giving birth to a Thea Eloise, but she is definitely not. Neither is she a Romilly Alice. Or a Madeleine. Ditto Phoebe. Confused

She is however, a glorious little babe, have I mentioned that already? All pouty lips, button nose, dark hair and big blue eyes. swoon And despite being a breast milk ninja, she has stolen our hearts already.

I have a strong suspicion she could be a Polly Alice, but DP is concerned that mil some people may think its a silly, indulgent name. (Not mil bashing, for the most part, she is great, but a dreadful snob!)

So, what I need from you are your best suggestions for a beautifully vintage, old fashioned or even slightly twee name. Out of the top twenty would be the ideal remit, but not a deal breaker.

Thank you so much in advance :)

Polly is gorgeous. Not sure it goes with Alice though. What about polly Elouise?

I like Polly and Alice Smile so would go for it ..

Used to work with a v v senior manager who was Polly (think it was short for Penelope in her case) although historically its a shortening of Mary...
so not silly or indulgent! (she was a tough cookie but lovely )

an option could be Peggy (short for margaret)

If you say Polly Alice out loud, it sounds like a medical condition. (Sorry, but it does!!) Shock

I do love Romilly-are you sure she's not one?!

I too love Polly and Alice, not so keen on them together but I don't think it is hideous. I think Polly is a great name.

Other ideas - Dorothy (Dolly), Emily, Linnet, Ivy, Betsy

Bryony. I'm put in mind of dusky maidens wandering the woodlands, Medieval style when I hear that name.

Or Rowan.

Oooh some lovely ideas!

Florence was a contender before we knew she was a DD, but I was concerned about the popularity. Beatrix was another option. I really like:

Verity
Mabel
Ramona
Violet
Lois (although dnephew is Lewis, so dont think I can)

I also love Kitty (but I'm a Kirsten so probably couldn't?) and Isobel (uber popular I know)

DP loves Gwendoline and Penelope oh and Lola. I have no strong feelings toward Gwendoline, but I like Penelope and Lola.

The whole thing feels very strange to me, because we both love love Thea but the minute she was born it just didn't feel right - did anyone else have this? Am I likely to rethink this when she looks less like a miniature (albeit gorgeous) Gollum?
