Day-lee-ya. Americans say Dah-lee-ya from what I've seen on youtube.

OverAndAbove Fri 02-May-14 21:15:12

Day-lee-a, with the emphasis on Day.

Quangle Fri 02-May-14 21:21:35

Kleptronic Fri 02-May-14 21:26:40

Day-li-ah

Martorana Fri 02-May-14 21:28:42

How can you like it if you don't know how to say it??

It's Day-lee-ah in English.

HenI5 Fri 02-May-14 21:33:54

English was as per the flower.

Dar lee ah sounds affected to me.

goofygoober Fri 02-May-14 21:34:19

I actually like it pronounced either way. I asked the question to see how others would expect it to sound, should we decide to use it. That's if we end up with a DD and not a DS!

Thanks.

MollyBdenum Fri 02-May-14 22:07:35

It's one of those words that I read before I heard anyone say it, so in my head it's Dah-lee-a but I would actually say Day-lee-a.

Darmok Fri 02-May-14 22:26:31

I know an American girl called Dahlia, Dar Lee ah.

I'd say Day lee ah though for an English girl, unless told otherwise.

TheLastThneed Fri 02-May-14 22:28:01

Dar Lee Ah

MrsBungle Fri 02-May-14 22:28:30

Day lia like the flower. I considered it for dc2. I love it.

PigletJohn Fri 02-May-14 22:30:37

depends what country you are in.

The plant was introduced to Europe, from IIRC Mexico by a Professor Dahl. I believe he was Swiss-German and pronounced his name Darl, so in most of the world they are called Darl-ee-as.

In UK for some reason we call them Day-lee-as.

AberdeenAngusina Fri 02-May-14 22:30:38

Day-lee -ah
