Jane as a first name

I'm loving Jane at the moment. Do you think Jane Eyre, Jane Austen or Plain Jane Superbrain?

Also struggling with a middle name as everything sounds back to front e.g. Jane Emily should be Emily Jane, Jane Laura should be Laura Jane.

Surname is 2 syllables, begins with P. Older sister is a Sarah. We're not exactly adventurous.

Any thoughts?

I like it. Classic and unusual (currently).

Love it might be my middle name!

Simple, classic and underused.

I like it with a 3 syllable middle name eg. Jane Elizabeth.

its like Rose - makes a Meh middle name but a marvellous first name.

I love it. It's my middle name but I often use it as my first name.

I think its fab.

I like it - unusual for a baby these days. I also think it calls for a longer middle name - Victoria, Elizabeth, Imogen, Isobel, Annabel, Rebecca.

Jane, Zzzzzzzz
Sorry my DDs have very simple classic names, but Jane is the dullest flatest name on the planet.

You just can't say Hi I'm Jane, without it being an anticlimax.

I think it's a great name. Not showy, confident in itself.

brokenhearted55a Sun 13-Apr-14 12:27:29

Love it

Or how about Janet?

squoosh Sun 13-Apr-14 12:42:21

It's a bit boring.

MrsJohnDeere Sun 13-Apr-14 12:46:07

Dull.

I have it as a middle name (along with 99% of people my age) and loathe it!

fairnotfair Sun 13-Apr-14 12:47:39

Love it.

joanofarchitrave Sun 13-Apr-14 12:52:06

Adore it.

Nice with a season name, or a family surname/male relative name?

Jane Winter
Jane Howard

ChickenMe Sun 13-Apr-14 12:59:28

I love it. Underused. Lovely name IMO.

WhereHas1999DissappearedToo Sun 13-Apr-14 13:00:09

It's dull, meh and dated, sorry.

Lovely name, it works far better as a first name than a middle name.

sandberry Sun 13-Apr-14 16:28:32

Lovely and very uncommon, is less popular than Favour, Janelle, Isadora, Seraphina and Gaia hardly popular names and yet everyone will be able to say and spell it, what more could you want in a name?

A longer middle name balances it out. I'd rethink if your surname is one syllable or very common though, Jane Jones or Jane Smith could be a bit much.

Jellaby Sun 13-Apr-14 16:30:19

I think it is gorgeous, understated chic. Like Kate.

exWifebeginsat40 Sun 13-Apr-14 16:33:54

i am a Madeleine and when i was little i SO wanted to be called Jane. it's so pretty..

Timeandtune Sun 13-Apr-14 16:39:35

I like Jane. Classic and timeless.

brokenhearted55a Sun 13-Apr-14 17:47:30

It's surprising how many people say Jane is a boring name when names like Emma are in the top 10.

nomoretether Sun 13-Apr-14 18:55:38

I really like Jane smile

Nocomet Sun 13-Apr-14 19:03:52

If you don't say it with a forced smile, which makes you look silly, it just sort of falls away into nothing.
