Which boys name from our list?

We just can't decide!

In no particular order...

Otis or Otto
Ted (Theodore)
Rafa (Rafael)
Asa
Elias
Orson
Vincent

We want to avoid names ending in ie sound - too matchy matchy with DS1.

Actually I don't think we need any more suggestions, just to narrow down the list a bit!

My faves are Ted (too popular?) and Otto (too Germanic?) and Rafa (too popular). But still can't seem to be able to strike them off the list...

Comments welcome!

The benefit of Ted is that if you call him Theodore on his BC there are lots of options there.

I do know a dog called Otis, so somewhat biased on that one.

I would spell it Raphael unless you had very good reasons for the f (eg heritage).

Theodore or Elias.

Orson for me.

How is Asa pronounced? I know an Asher which is a lovely name IMO.

Ted or Elias.
I know you don't want suggestions but Theodore could be Theo.

Theodore could be Ted though - just as Elizabeth can be all sorts of things.

I presume you're not in the UK if you think Rafa too popular?

I love Raphael - ph spelligng rather than Rafael. Is that Spanish?

Otto, Theodore and the others are OK. Not Otis though - too wannabe rockstarbaby name.

Love Ted (Theodore) it's on our shortlist although he'll be Edward instead.

Ted or Rafa

I would have 3 of those names on the birth cert. Theodore Rafael Vincent Surname.

The other names don't come anywhere near.

Thanks for the replies...

Re Rafa, not sure about spelling. I always assumed Raphael was Italian and Rafael Spanish, of which we are neither so just picked the one I prefer. What wld be French spelling? That wld be most appropriate to our heritage. We are not technically uk but a British isle, small community -and I know of 3 raphaels under 6! And a few in London too. They all go by Rafi. But it's DH's favourite...

Theodore on Bc for precisely the reasons given, that he cld have options, but theo is ridiculously popular so would hope to avoid using that as a nn. Popularity is quite important to me especially as we're in a small place and everyone knows everyone (it's not that small but it feels that way!)

Asa is pronounced Acer, am beginning to think that's a bit poncey, more so that Otis in fact. Because I have actually known people called Otis but never an Asa. Although I think it's an awesome name.

Basically I love them all and I know it's unlikely I'll get to choose a name again, I don't want to see them all going to waste!!!

horace, do you think otto is ok given utterly zero German connection? I know same can be said about Rafael but somehow I feel closer to Spanish/Italian roots than German...maybe a bit silly...

Don't want to see these names going to waste? You'll be getting hamsters/goldfish/stick insects/giant African land snails one day, won't you? Grin

love Ted but couldn't resist calling a cute little one teddy! really like Vincent, Vince, as well! and Rafa is better than Rafi imo!

I seem to be the only one rooting for Asa, poncy or otherwise Grin! The only one I've ever heard of is Asa Butterfield (the child actor from the likes of Hugo and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas).

Ted is also very sweet for a little boy, and he can always be Theodore later on... although he'll probably still be 'Ted' or 'Teddy' to his family!

Oh I don't think we'll ever decide.

Currently thinking Otis Theodore, then we can always call him otto or ted at home if we ever decide we made the wrong decision... Or is that a bit too tenuous and ridiculous!!

Rafa would keep the family happy I think - crossing all religions etc...

Rafael Theodore?

Much as I love Orsen I might keep that one for stick insect/goldfish etc... Someone once told me Orsen Wells was a horrible man, not sure why can't get that out of my head!!

Oh and Vincent... I love it too... Not sure about Vincent or Vinnie though so tht might rule that one out for me.

Asa I LoVe - Asa Briggs was pretty awesome. But think it might be a bit random and 'out there' for lots f people we know...Ace is a pretty cool nn though!

Love Ted for Theodore. I was tempted to call my son this, but my oh would have shortened it to theo, which I was not so keen on. You could also have Ted short for Edward?

Boygirl5 · 10/04/2014 23:23

Ted for sure, I love it

Theo(dore) and Rafael are already pretty trendy/popular.

I really like Orson! Cool, classic and not overused.
