We have a boy due in 5 weeks. We have a small list of names but one we quite like is Auron, what do you think?

My first reaction was that it looks like an unfinished Auberon (which would normally be shortened to Aubrey, if you want the same meaning but fewer syllables).

We don't worry about horrible names at school really. kids will pick on other kids no matter what, it doesn't have to rhyme. My nephew is called James, kids call him smelly James. kids are mean, they don't need to rhyme to do that.

The Auron/Aaron thing we have thought about but I don't think they sound that much alike. It's said like oar-an not our-ron

I have to say, it seems a little made up. I think Aaron is better.

I don't think children get picked on for names nowadays, especially if you live in a multicultural area (or very MC area!).

'Auron', according to Wikipedia, is 2 superheroes from DC comics, a planet on Blake's 7, a 'playable character' from Final Fantasy, and a character in 'Dragon Champion'.

I don't like the idea of giving a person a name for life that is so very 'niche' and not a real name. It's like calling him 'Spiderman'.

I have an Arran. I didn't want "Air-Ron" which is how "Aaron" is supposed to be pronounced.

As it happens, most people call him "A-ran" not exactly what I was expecting but actually it kinda suits him.

I would pronounce Auron as in "aura" with "on" at the end. Is that right?

It would really be better if other people gave their opinions on the sound of the name just from hearing/seeing it rather than looking it up in the internet first. We're well aware of it's meanings and origins just wanted to know if it sounded OK as a name really. When people are introduced to him I doubt they'll get their phones out and Google his name to see if it has a suitable meaning.
