I know of two females called Darryl and also the actress Daryl Hanna. Me and oh really like it. It's not decided, we're just sussing names out right now. What do you think? The thing is, we have a Dylan, Rory and Max. Is Darryl too close to Dylan? Or do you think they're alright together?

No.

Daria as female version. But still close to Dylan

Seminyak Fri 21-Mar-14 20:57:26

I like it!

Mumof3xx Fri 21-Mar-14 20:58:17

I was going to suggest Dylan instead! But clearly that's not an option!

nichib83 Fri 21-Mar-14 20:59:02

Thank you Seminyak! It's really different isn't it? smile

I'd spell it Darrell (like Rivers). And removing the 'y' makes it a bit less like Dylan.

That's good thinking. Thanks!

I think Darryl is the boy's spelling, Darrell the girl's. I used to love Darrell rivers smile

EBearhug Fri 21-Mar-14 21:07:57

I'd spell it Darrell (like Rivers).

Yeah, it does sound a bit Blyton. I suppose though, the world can probably be divided into those who have and those who haven't read Malory Towers, and most of the world won't make that link.

Daria is a good idea.

nichib83 Fri 21-Mar-14 21:09:32

Hmmm....I always thought that Daryl was male and Darryl was female. I like the spelling Darrell though. It does make it more different from Dylan! I keep coming up with names that are similar to my sons names. Typical!

nichib83 Fri 21-Mar-14 21:09:55

I don't like Daria at all!

nichib83 Fri 21-Mar-14 21:10:32

Also, I've never heard of Mallory towers! lol!!

tilbatilba Fri 21-Mar-14 21:11:06

Ghastly

I love how some people have a way with words!! hahaha!

scarletforya Fri 21-Mar-14 21:16:26

It's like calling your little girl Nigel or Rodney or Dwayne. Don't like it Op.

squoosh Fri 21-Mar-14 21:49:51

I thought of Mallory Towers. She was a bit of a goodie two shoes, pain in the bum.

After that I think of some hard as nails, tattooed woman shrieking 'Oi, are you lookin' at my Darrell?'

Shesparkles Fri 21-Mar-14 21:52:42

I love it! (And Mallory Towers blush )

susiedaisy Fri 21-Mar-14 21:58:10

Don't like it sorry. How about Darla?

Theonlyoneiknow Fri 21-Mar-14 23:57:33

I like it, if you and your OH like it use it!

Mireio Fri 21-Mar-14 23:57:47

It makes me think of Mallory Towers too. I really like Darrell for a girl (this spelling only, I dislike Darryl)

I know there is Daryl Hannah (and Darrell Rivers!) but somehow to me the name just seems quite masculine. I don't like it. Too similar to Dylan, as well, really.

hunreeeal Sat 22-Mar-14 00:42:25

Too similar to Darren. It sounds like a 70s boys name.

ecuse Sat 22-Mar-14 02:20:54

Awful. And: Malory Towers.

No definitely not
