I have suddenly decided that I love this name above all others and frankly don't care what DP thinks on the matter.

The only weensy hitch is I'm not sure about the assonance that exists when it's used with my surname: Enid Stephens.

Thoughts?

You can tell me your thoughts on Enid too, if you like. Though I shan't listen to you unless you are wholly positive about it, obviously. wink

It was the worst solution ever, Muff.

I often do think about marrying someone else. Someone artistic maybe, with red hair and stubble who knows a lot about wine and reads T S Eliot.... <breaks reverie> However, the Stephens is my name so I'll keep it even if I ditch DP for my red fox.

I love Enid it's a beautiful name smile

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 20:44:14

Ena Stephens? Is that EEE-nah or ENN-ah?

If it's EEE-nah then I declare you to be a piss-taker, lady.

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 20:44:54

I have a horror of names beginning with 'Eva'. Sounds like kittens.

bigkidsdidit Tue 18-Mar-14 20:45:53

I LOVE Agnes but don't like Enid at all, sorry. Ignore me!

MuffTheMagicDragonButter Tue 18-Mar-14 20:47:10

No, it's definitley EEEEEE-nah, but somehow I think it gets away with the assonance better than Enid.

Same with Evadne, I'm not sure it's the repeated 'ee' that's the problem.

Honestly, I really am trying to assist! grin

Ok, here are the variables:

1. Enid (name she'll be called all the damn time)

2. Enid Stephens (name she'll use a good bit)

3. Enid Marian Stephens (name she'll rarely use, only on formal docs)

4. Agnes and Enid (sibling names together)

5. Agnes and Enid Stephens (sibling names together with surname)

Issues?

oh ok

<runs away>

ArtexMonkey Tue 18-Mar-14 20:50:31

Love it, and I think it sounds fine with your surname.

My friend has an Enid (named after the character in Ghost World); she is ADORABLE and very cool.

ArtexMonkey Tue 18-Mar-14 20:51:14

I think Agnes and Enid go really well together.

You have rockin taste in names op.

MuffTheMagicDragonButter Tue 18-Mar-14 20:52:25

1) That's for you to decide, it's your 83 year old woman child.

2) Not disastrous, not like Robert Robertson or anything

3) Nowt wrong there, but, as you say, whoever takes any notice of middle names

4) Perfectly charming

5) The addition of Agnes hasn't mitigated point 2), but see point 2.

Only1scoop Tue 18-Mar-14 20:53:26

Perfect Op question your choice no further <Blimey....I don't often say that on a name thread> blush

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 20:53:28

Come back, Furlined! I'm only being mean because I haven't eaten within the last ninety seconds! Mea Culpa! <third trimester>

Bluestocking Tue 18-Mar-14 20:58:23

You couldn't call your second daughter Edith, even if you liked it, unless you are actively channelling Gru from Despicable Me.
I have been won over by the name Enid, and Agnes and Enid is seriously hardcore. I see them in my crystal ball, sixteen years from now, wearing whatever the equivalent is of full-on grungewear, and toting an electric bass (Agnes) and a tenor saxophone (Enid).

MuffTheMagicDragonButter Tue 18-Mar-14 21:08:00

Good point Bluestocking, but then OP could go for number 3 and use Margot, which is lovely.

I do think having an Agnes actually adds something to Enid, if that makes sense.

furlinedsheepskinjacket Tue 18-Mar-14 21:08:50

smile

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 21:12:23

Yes. That's what I'm after! Unequivocal affirmation all the way.

My girls will be super kickarse. They will not be called the likes of Ellie.

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 21:15:05

So my friend is stupid wrong allowed to disagree with my name choice of course, but MN is agreed that Agnes and Enid is the coolest sibset ever?

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 21:15:57

I like Margot. Maybe I'll have another baby after this one. Beats going to work.

furlinedsheepskinjacket Tue 18-Mar-14 21:16:04

we're just all scared of you now

TeamEdward Tue 18-Mar-14 21:18:04

Bloody love Enid, Agnes, Edith, Ethel, Margaret and Cornelia.
Hard-as-nails old lady names rule my roost.
but really pissed off as I seem only able to bear boys

ArtexMonkey Tue 18-Mar-14 21:18:56

That sounds about right smile

You can't take any notic of friends btw. When I was overdue with my ds, one of my friends commented "he doesn't want to be born because he's heard what you're going to call him"

My friend's dcs' names are both, you know, top ten most popular, say no more. wink Sometimes people like to playa hate.

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 21:19:29

Yeah, you should be. I'm about twenty seven stone and haven't had any wine for eight months.

Artandco Tue 18-Mar-14 21:20:02

I like Enid but prefer Edna

Edna Stephens sounds better IMO.

I also think Marian looks better as Marianne

Edna Marianne Stephens

Parmenides Tue 18-Mar-14 21:23:52

Ha! DD put in a late appearance because I think she'd started to get an inkling of the shambles I was going to make of parenting her. Nothing to do with her name. She is disdainful of anything classic. Her doll is called Telephone Stephens.
