Ruby - is it too popular? How many do you know under 5?

Recently had a post on here about our top 3 names being Amber, Carla and Freya - thanks for all your tips!

We have one final option - Ruby - which we also love but it is higher up the popularity rankings than I was hoping. How popular is it would you say? Popular enough that there will always be more than one in classes at school?

Thank you

I think it was very popular 5-8 years ago and not so much now. I know a few 5+ but none smaller than that.

I know two, one is three, one is four. I am in the South East. Not overly popular here I don't think.

Ruby was no 12 among top 100 female names in England and Wales in 2012 :
www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/aug/12/top-100-baby-names-2012-girls-boys-list

Freya was no 19, Amber no 60, Carla not in top 100.

Really like carla.
Ruby to me is a very popular name around when it was no1 - was that 2005?
A bit like Megan and Chloe now are aged 15-20

My ruby is nearly 10... I don't think it was in the top list when I had her but is now very popular and lots of younger girls have the name now.

Do you like Cleo, cara, ebony or pearl?

Don't think I know any under 5yo, but at least half a dozen between 6-10yo. It's still too popular if you don't want 'popular'!

Ruby is very popular - there are 6 in a 60 year intake of reception in our school. Freya is just as popular though nicer IMO. Amber is nice too. Carla make me think of an 'older person' version of Clara which is also becoming very popular near me.

I don't know any children called Ruby. But I do know 2 dogs called Ruby.

We don't know any Carlas (apart from one I went to school with), we know 3 Freyas and 1 Amber.

I like Ruby and Freya the best out of your four.

I was keen on this if we have a DD2 but my sister is a primary school teacher, with a nursery attached to the school and she has begged me not to use it as there are 3 x in nursery, 2 in Reception and 3 x in year 1 and she said that two of them are the rudest, most difficult children in the school and it has given her negative connotations for the name.

I'd still consider it though as I love it and haven't met any personally. I go to a lot of baby / toddler groups.

I know 1 aged10. It wasn't popular then and her mum went nuts when it subsequently became popular. You just can't tell which name is going to zoom up the charts, it's like something mystical in the air, pregnant women everywhere suddenly start loving the same name.
So just choose what you like Smile
