Carla
Claudia
Darcy
Francesca
Genevieve
Lana
Lara
Jean
Scout
Seren
Sorrel
Stella
Xanthe

Are some a bit try hard? Want to avoid things like Amelia, Eva, Sophia, Olivia: all gorgeous names but know too many. Ideally a name that doesn't date or place her would be good. Thanks!

Lara and Claudia for me.

Scout is a middle name at best.

Sorrell is a herb.

Jean is too old.

Love Xanthe. I would avoid Lana (Anal spelt backwards).

What about Sienna?

Most are a bit try hard.
Lara is ok but prefer Cara.

Genevieve is lovely.

I have a Francesca!

Sorrel is nice but makes me think of sorrow.

Seren is ok.

The rest are fine but not to my taste.

I like Francesca, Sorrel and Seren from your list.

Yes, Sorrel is an herb just like Lily is a flower and Ivy is a plant. So?

Sorrell can also be a reference to reddish-brown hair.

Claudia and Genevieve are gorgeous.

I dislike Darcy, Stella, Carla, Jean and Scout.

The others are nice.

I like Francesca from your list its suits any age and great nn's too. I do like Scout but I think it would be cute when they're little but not on a grown woman. The others aren't to my taste

Thanks for the replies! Never would have thought of Lana being anal backwards, this is why it's good to ask.

I like Sienna, but have good friends with a Sienna. I like Saskia and love Lois, but surname begins with S, so have tried to avoid names ending in S…

Not keen on Phaedra, bit too unusual for me I think.

I like most of these, especially Xanthe and Seren. Not try hard at all, especially compared to some of the threads on here. Your list says 'normal but not too common' to me.

Proudmammamia · 07/03/2014 21:53

I have a Francesca and I love it.

Genevieve is also lovely. Go with what you like not what is trendy or common. I will last a lifetime

Am loving the 'normal but not too common' description! Grin Think that probably sums up what we are going for.

It's just occurred to me that Genevieve is going to get shortened to Evie, isn't it? Which I do really like, but not how popular it is.

I like Francesca and Genevieve from your list.

Xanthe and Darcy are very popular and will date quickly
Scout is OK as a nn
Jean and Carla are old lady names, and not as pretty as say, Violet, they need another few years, along with Sandra Janet Patricia etc before they come back as a pretty name
Seren, nice if you have Welsh family links.

Stella, again a bit old lady, but how about Estelle, same meaning, much nicer sound, very pretty, unusual but not trying too hard.

Have just noticed your post about Evie, the Genevieve I know is usually given her whole name, only very rarely Vee or Veevee.

Report
brachiosaurus · 08/03/2014 15:16

Is Xanthe very popular then? I've only ever met one, mid-thirties.
