Expecting a girl- help with my narrowed down list!

Hi everyone

I am new to mumsnet. I just signed up today after finding out on Monday that I am expecting a little sister for my 2 year old son Jamie! (Christened James but ended up a Jamie) Really over the moon and have a few names that I have always loved and a couple that I have grown to like more recently. This is a list that both my hubby and I have agreed on.

Holly
Kate (I know some may say this is "boring" but I really do love it. I think it's simple but elegant and I also like Katy as a nickname)
Rosanna/Rosie
Emily (again, a tad "boring." I remember growing up there were tons of Emily's in my school but I feel it's gone down in popularity a bit over the past few years? Or is it still too common do you feel?)
Ramona
Bryony/Briony
Penelope/Penny
Alana (This one is after my grandfather Alan)
And the last one is the "odd" one! This one is a little "out there"...Kendal. My hubby's dad is Kenneth and my grandfather (who I was extremely close to) was Alan, so we feel Kendal is a nice way to combine the two. I also think Kenny is actually quite cute for a little girl. I know compared to the traditional Kate and Emily this one seems a bit of a random throw in the mix.

Would love some honest opinions and am open to further suggestions!

My favourites of your names:

  1. Emily has been very popular but it's still lovely
  2. Rosanna is nice, with nickname Rosie
  3. Ramona is cool too.

Kate is nice, but I think it would be better to call her Katherine/Catherine, with Kate for short. If you did that it would be up there with Emily!

The others are a bit meh. I really don't like Kendal. I was at school with a girl called this and felt sorry for her. It just doesn't seem very feminine to have a name that shortens to 'Ken'. It makes you think of the town, (and mintcake!)

oops just realised I forgot Alexandra (not sure if there is a way to edit the post rather than write a comment?) Not sure how that one slipped, Alexandra is another favourite of mine and I really like Ali too for short.

You can't edit your posts on Mumsnet. You would have to ask the admin to do it for you, so people only normally do it for something major.

Alexandra is great too! And congratulations BTW.

I like most of your names, and Jamie is one of my favourite boys names.

My order would be:
Kate
Emily
Alexandra
Briony
Rosanna/Rosie
Holly

Alana is ok.
Not sure about Kendal, I'd have to think about it!
I really dislike Penelope/Penny

I really like Kendall. Reminds me of Kendall Jenner who is so breathtakingly beautiful.

I'm not keen on must of the others really, except Rosie which is pretty.

I personally don't like Kendal, it sounds so American like the surnames they use as a first name, like Piper or Hunter. I'm not a fan. Could you use this as a middle name and give her a more feminine first name?

I love Rosie and Alexandra, they are both beautiful timeless names.

I think Kendal is great. I met one recently and my first impression was how much I liked her name. I also like Alexandra, Holly, Bryony from your list. Not as keen on the others

I like Holly and Alexandra best. Not massively keen on Kendal. As someone else said it is the name of one of the younger Kardashian clan. People might wonder if it's after her. You just have to decide if that bothers you.

Kate
Ramona
Alexandra

How about Kendra?

I love Emily although I'm biased Grin.

Kate is lovely too. Considering it as a MN for dd2.

Alexandra also a favourite of mine (but DH doesn't like it sadly).

Emily and Kate are nice. I don't really like Penelope, Alexandra and Rosanna but they're a nice enough name. Not sure about Byrony

I think Kendal would be a marvellous middle name.

Bryony Kendal?

Have you considered Blythe? I think it's lovely.

Kendal is a great name! Shes one of the nicer, more down to earth members of the Kardashian clan. I wouldn't mind being compared to her.

Love Bryony - one of my good friends is Bryony and shes a strong, creative lady.
Penelope is nice too.

Holly - I like this. Sweet but also works on an adult.
Kate - it's ok. I do much prefer Katy though.
Rosanna/Rosie - like both of these
Emily - quite like it. I don't normally say 'too' popular as names are usually popular for a reason but, as a teacher, I do find I am perhaps a little bored of Emily.
Ramona - never met one so think it's unusual. Not overly keen but don't dislike it
Bryony/Briony - really like this. The only ones I know are adults. I think it should be more popular!
Penelope/Penny - don't like Penelope at all and not keen on Penny either
Alana - I like this. I know a couple but not loads. Pretty.
Kendal - Really like it (but I am keen on the US surname trend). I think, if you are in the UK, I might spell it Kendall to differentiate from the town (but I grew up there so I might be giving it an over inflated sense of importance!)

My favourites are Kendal, Bryony and Katy
