I know it's a bit old-fashioned, but I really like the name Ian. Short, nice sounding, simple. Is it too old-man though?

Sorry, but it doesn't even sound old man, it's just not a very nice name in my opinion.

I love it and I know a few really nice Ian's too which makes it nicer

Dislike it - the Ian' that I know are all a bit, well weasel like and not particularly nice.

Will he be born a 40 year old IT consultant?

No, then.

What about Ewan, Eoin or Evan? Similar but maybe more 'modern'?

Of course you have every right to name him Ian too :-)

I went to school in the 80's with about 10 Ian's. I'm not a fan.

To be honest, I've never liked it. However, I recently found out it's become very popular in the US! So there are plenty of people out there who like it.

Oh dear. That's fairly unanimous (though thank you another for being the lone supporter of the name!). I'm laughing at the thought of weasely Ian the 40 year old IT consultant... not exactly the connotation I was after!

One of my favourite people is an Ian. I think you're a bit early, though. It needs a lot more years to come around again.
