Do these names seem posh to you?

Emilia
Clara
Verity

DH is convinced they are a bit posh for us. I think I've spent so long thinking about this that I no longer have an immediate sense of where they fall in the whole class thing...what do you think?

Is 'posh' bad?

I think the names are lovely.

No, not bad at all! I just wondered what the perception might be. Just asking, that's all.

What is posh? I have a 'posh' name. Actually my middle name is quite 'posh' as well. Try 'classic' or 'timeless'

I come from an ordinary working class background but I do believe my 'classic' names have opened doors for me. They are timeless and I can't be age dated by my name. I could be fifteen or sixty.

Your choices are timeless and classic.

Verity is the only one I think of as a bit posh, but maybe because I know a posh verity

I don't think they're posh, but they are lovely names (I know a very nice not posh Verity)

They are names that cross classes. They will be on both state and private school rolls.

They are all nice names.

Verity is the only one that sounds a bit posh to me.

There's an Emilia in my family. My side isn't posh but her parents are stuck up. I love the name and wouldn't really say it's posh it's just my family who think they are

I'd say a little old fashioned rather than posh. Bit old fashioned is cool!

Hmm altogether they sound a bit posh but individually if I met someone with one of those names I wouldn't bat an eyelid. So as long as it's not triplets... Grin

I love Clara and considered it for DD2.

Verity is well posh and I love it. My boyfriend when I was 16 had a younger sister called Verity and she totally rocked. It's a fab name.

Ummm . like the poster above said, if met individually....no. If I had to choose one, it would be Verity but to be perfectly honest whenever I think about whether a name is posh or not, I imagine it being called in different regional accents. This quickly eliminates ANY name from being posh!

Verity is posh.

ToffeeJungle · 30/01/2014 11:56

I would consider them as posh, too posh for me anyway!

In order of poshness (poshest first):
Verity
Clara
Emilia

I have a posh name but I am a massive chav.

At uni no one believed I had gone to state school because of it. That and my stupid accent.

I wouldn't say they sounded posh, but pretty.

What on earth is wrong with a 'posh' name? Most names that some of you call posh are simply beautiful names!

Report
NinjaPenguin · 30/01/2014 12:07

I think they sound posh. (But then I'm the opposite of posh Grin ) but I don't see what is wrong with that. They can still be pretty names, not my taste (apart from Emilia, which I love!) but if you like them, then I don't see why it matters.
